The gaming industry often thrives on collaboration, with countless developers contributing to the creation of blockbuster titles. Yet, behind every major release lies a complex web of creative efforts, studio partnerships, and untold stories of those who helped shape a project’s foundation.

As one of this year’s biggest shooters makes headlines for its record-breaking launch, a new discussion has emerged about recognition, credit, and fairness within game development.

The Battlefield 6 credits controversy has sparked major discussion after former Battlefield director Marcus Lehto voiced his disappointment over EA’s handling of developer acknowledgements.

Lehto revealed that many members of Ridgeline Games, the studio originally responsible for building the campaign’s foundation, were left out or buried deep in the game’s credits—including himself.

Importance: The Battlefield 6 credits controversy highlights the ongoing issue of uncredited developers, stressing the need for fair recognition and transparency in the gaming industry.

Lehto Reveals Start Of Credit Controversy

According to Marcus Lehto, the Battlefield 6 credits controversy began when he noticed many Ridgeline Games developers, who spent over a year and a half building the game’s foundation, were not properly credited.

Ridgeline, led by Lehto as VP and Creative Director, developed the early single-player framework before his departure in early 2024 and the studio’s shutdown soon after.

In a LinkedIn post, Lehto revealed that most former team members were only listed under “Special Thanks,” while others, including himself, were omitted entirely. He later shared a custom credit list to honor their work, reigniting debate over fair recognition and transparency in game development.
