Miami-Dade Eyes GTA VI Partnership to Turn Miami Into Vice City

Miami-Dade County is discussing a potential Grand Theft Auto VI marketing partnership with Rockstar Games that could temporarily bring Vice City branding to real locations across South Florida. Public records obtained by local journalists show county officials developed proposals involving Miami International Airport, public transit, PortMiami and other county-owned spaces. A spokesperson for Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava has confirmed conversations with Rockstar are taking place, but stressed that no agreement has been formally approved.

The proposal has gained further attention after Local 10 reported that county officials see GTA VI as a possible source of new revenue. A spokesperson for the county said Miami-Dade’s clear influence on the game could create a “unique opportunity to generate revenue for the County” while presenting the region to a huge audience. The comments are significant because they move the story beyond speculative marketing concepts and confirm that local government officials are actively evaluating the commercial potential of a Rockstar partnership.

A pitch deck obtained through a public-records request outlines several possible ways Miami could temporarily resemble GTA’s fictional Vice City around the game’s launch. At Miami International Airport, one concept envisions a Vice City-themed arrival experience with a display aircraft carrying Vice City branding, customized baggage areas, luggage carts, signage and other visual elements. Local 10 also reported that the county proposed temporarily branding the airport as “Vice City Airport,” while the wider plan includes specially designed Vice City manhole covers.

Downtown Miami could receive similar treatment under the proposal. Concepts include Metromover cars wrapped in Vice City colors and branding, along with themed signage at Metromover and Metrorail stations around areas such as Brickell, Bayfront Park and the Stephen P. Clark Government Center. Utility boxes and other pieces of public infrastructure could also be redesigned temporarily to reference the game.

The plans extend beyond transport infrastructure. At PortMiami, the pitch proposes an installation or mural inspired by Port Gellhorn, one of GTA VI’s fictional locations, incorporating elements of Miami’s working waterfront. Rickenbacker Beach could receive a Vice City-themed sculpture, photo installation or shaded overlook, while Tropical Park has been suggested as a location for a controlled celebration of Miami car culture featuring classic vehicles, motorcycles, music, food and branded displays.

None of those ideas should be treated as confirmed installations. Carlos Suarez, a spokesperson for Mayor Levine Cava, has said county staff have held conversations with Rockstar about opportunities surrounding GTA VI’s launch, while emphasizing that nothing has been formally agreed to or approved. Any proposal would still need to pass the appropriate feasibility, review and approval processes before appearing in public spaces.

The discussions are particularly notable because Vice City has always been Rockstar’s fictional interpretation of Miami and South Florida. GTA VI expands that concept into the broader state of Leonida, with trailers and official footage depicting locations heavily inspired by Miami Beach, the Everglades, highways, nightlife districts and other recognizable parts of the region. A real-world marketing campaign would effectively reverse that relationship by using the actual city to promote the fictional version that it inspired.

Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. With the release approaching, Rockstar’s marketing campaign has already expanded significantly, including a lengthy official gameplay presentation released in August. Miami-Dade’s proposals show that the launch could eventually extend beyond conventional trailers and advertising, although any real-life Vice City transformation remains a proposal until Rockstar and county officials reach a formal agreement.
