PlayStation Confirms Two State of Play Shows for September 3

Sony has officially confirmed that State of Play will return on Thursday, September 3 with two broadcasts airing back-to-back. The first show will feature updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners, before concluding with an extended look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation. A separate State of Play Japan will begin immediately afterward with a stronger focus on games from developers in Japan and across Asia.

Both broadcasts are scheduled to begin from 6:00am PT / 9:00am ET / 3:00pm CEST / 10:00pm JST on September 3. Sony says the main State of Play will be presented in English with Japanese subtitles available, while State of Play Japan will be broadcast in Japanese with English subtitles. Viewers will be able to watch through PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels.

Sony has not revealed the complete lineup for the first presentation, but it has confirmed that the broadcast will include material from both its own studios and external partners. The show will end with an extended look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Square Enix’s next entry in the Final Fantasy VII remake project. The game is currently scheduled to launch for PS5 in Spring 2027.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation was formally revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25. Its announcement trailer showed Cloud and his companions travelling aboard the Highwind and offered an early look at the Weapons, massive creatures tied closely to the planet’s story. Sony’s wording suggests the September 3 segment will go beyond that reveal and provide a more substantial look at the game’s world.

The second broadcast, State of Play Japan, will once again be hosted by Yuki Kaji. Sony says the show will feature deeper dives into upcoming games from studios based in Japan and Asia, including new gameplay and announcements. No specific titles have been confirmed for that portion of the presentation, leaving room for both previously announced projects and potential new reveals.

The dual-show format gives Sony a broader structure than a typical State of Play. Instead of combining every regional announcement into a single presentation, the company is separating its general PlayStation lineup from a dedicated Japan and Asia-focused broadcast. Sony previously used the State of Play Japan format in November 2025, where it featured new gameplay, release dates and announcements from developers across the region.

The September 3 event also follows months of regular PlayStation presentations throughout 2026. Sony held a major State of Play in June that ran for more than an hour and opened with Marvel’s Wolverine, while additional dedicated broadcasts have focused on individual games. The company’s latest announcement confirms that September will continue that schedule with a broader showcase rather than another single-game presentation.

Sony has not announced how long either September 3 broadcast will run. Beyond Final Fantasy VII Revelation, it has also not named any games that will appear in the main State of Play, so any rumored inclusions remain unconfirmed. For now, the only guaranteed details are the two-show format, the September 3 start time, the presence of PlayStation Studios and third-party updates, and the extended Final Fantasy VII Revelation presentation.
