Ubisoft has announced that Rainbow Six Mobile will shut down on January 15, 2027, less than a year after the tactical shooter’s worldwide release. The company confirmed the decision on October 8, stating that the game will remain available until the shutdown date and that its next season will launch as scheduled next week. The closure brings an end to a project that spent several years in development and testing before its global launch in February 2026.
In an official message to players, the Rainbow Six Mobile development team described the closure as a difficult decision. The announcement comes after 15 seasons of content since the game’s initial soft launch in 2023, during which Ubisoft expanded its availability, introduced new features, and worked toward a worldwide release. Despite those efforts, the company has decided to discontinue the mobile title and redirect its development team toward other projects.
Ubisoft stated that the team will move on to other long-term strategic projects, although it did not identify those projects or provide a specific reason for ending Rainbow Six Mobile. The announcement also did not disclose player numbers, revenue figures, or other performance data that might explain the decision. Ubisoft said additional information about the shutdown process will be shared in the coming weeks, giving players more details about what to expect before January 15.

The shutdown is particularly notable because Rainbow Six Mobile only received its worldwide launch on February 23, 2026. Ubisoft originally announced the game in April 2022 as a free-to-play adaptation of Rainbow Six Siege for Android and iOS devices. Its development involved multiple closed tests, a regional soft launch beginning in 2023, and several adjustments to gameplay, performance, and progression systems before the global release.
The mobile adaptation was designed to bring Rainbow Six Siege’s tactical multiplayer experience to smartphones while accommodating shorter play sessions and touchscreen controls. It featured 5v5 attacker-versus-defender matches, destructible environments, familiar Operators, and maps adapted from the main game. Players could participate in modes such as Bomb, Bomb Rush, and Team Deathmatch, alongside Ranked matches and other multiplayer activities.
Ubisoft continued supporting Rainbow Six Mobile with new content throughout 2026. Its September update, Operation Concrete Impact, introduced Zofia as a playable Attacker and added Close Quarters, a permanent 3v3 mode designed around shorter matches and close-range combat. The season also included additional events and a collaboration with PAYDAY, bringing themed cosmetic items to the game.
The announcement therefore arrives shortly after a period of active content updates rather than an extended absence of development. Ubisoft has confirmed that another season will still release next week, meaning players will receive at least one more scheduled content update before the game’s closure. However, the company has not yet explained how seasonal progression, purchases, or other in-game systems will be handled during the remaining months.
For existing players, January 15 is the most important date in the announcement. Ubisoft has confirmed that Rainbow Six Mobile will remain available until then, but has not provided a detailed timetable for the final shutdown process. Questions surrounding in-game purchases, unused premium currency, account progression, and potential refunds remain unanswered in the initial statement.
Rainbow Six Mobile’s closure also follows other recent decisions to discontinue online gaming experiences, including the shutdown of Fortnite's Rocket Racing mode. While the two projects operate under different business models, both illustrate how online-focused games and modes can eventually be withdrawn even after receiving ongoing support. In Rainbow Six Mobile’s case, the short period between its worldwide launch and announced closure makes the decision especially significant.
Ubisoft has thanked the Rainbow Six Mobile community for its involvement throughout development, testing, and the game’s live-service seasons. The company acknowledged the players who contributed feedback, created content, participated in tournaments, and helped shape the mobile experience over the past several years.
The developer has not announced a replacement for Rainbow Six Mobile or indicated that the game will continue operating in another form after January 15, 2027. For now, players can continue accessing the game while awaiting further details about its final season and the steps leading up to the shutdown.
