Shape of Dreams is now available on Xbox Series X|S, launching through Xbox Game Pass alongside the action roguelite’s largest update to date. Developer Lizard Smoothie confirmed the Xbox release during Microsoft’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 activities on September 17. The Starless Path update arrives at the same time, adding a ninth playable Traveler, a new progression path, a stronger final boss and a new ending.
The Xbox version includes the improvements and additional content introduced since Shape of Dreams originally launched on Steam on September 10, 2025. Lizard Smoothie says more than 1.5 million players have entered the game over its first year. Xbox players therefore begin with a substantially expanded version rather than the original launch build.
Shape of Dreams combines top-down hack-and-slash combat with roguelite progression and elements inspired by team-focused games. Players enter the shifting world known as the Rapids as one of nine Travelers, each built around a different combat style and personal story. Runs can be completed solo or in online co-op with up to four players, with enemy behavior and difficulty changing when additional Travelers join.

Character builds revolve around Memories and Essences. Memories function as abilities, while Essences modify and combine with them to create different effects, with more than 200 options available between the two systems. Lizard Smoothie says the structure is designed to support dramatically different builds between runs, including setups centered on critical strikes, summoned allies, freezing enemies or simply increasing survivability.
Cross-play is supported with the Xbox launch, allowing Xbox players to join people on other supported platforms. That makes the console release part of the existing multiplayer ecosystem rather than a separate pool. Xbox players also receive the Crimson Flash Lacerta costume as a console bonus, including those accessing the game through Game Pass, with no additional purchase required.
The Starless Path expands the playable roster with Cetus, a ranged Traveler who uses frost-based abilities. Cetus can accumulate frost before releasing powerful bursts, create large glaciers to control space and provide protection for teammates. His build options can also shift his role considerably, allowing him to function as a back-line ranged attacker or move toward a heavier melee-oriented setup.
A new progression system called the Way of Stars is another major part of the update. Playing individual Travelers connects their episodes into constellation-style progression paths that unlock illustrations, exclusive emotes and additional story material. Following those paths far enough can eventually open a new ending and access to a stronger final boss.
The update also introduces six shared Identity Memories that can alter a Traveler’s core playstyle rather than simply strengthening an existing ability. Heroic bosses have received more difficult attack patterns at higher difficulty levels, providing additional challenges for experienced players. These additions build on earlier updates that introduced the Limbo endgame difficulty, new shrines and rewards, major critical-hit changes and broader balancing across Memories and Essences.
Lizard Smoothie has also spent the past year improving performance and stability, with those changes incorporated directly into the Xbox version. The studio says previous updates were shaped by how players approached builds and progression after launch, with The Starless Path continuing that process through more flexible character development and additional endgame content.
Shape of Dreams is available now on Xbox Series X|S and through Xbox Game Pass, with cross-play enabled from launch. The Starless Path update is also available now, bringing Cetus, the Way of Stars progression system, Identity Memories, harder bosses, a new ending and the game’s new final encounter to the existing player base.
