Sony Working to Restore Helldivers 2 and Horizon on UK Steam

Sony Interactive Entertainment says it is working with Valve to restore select PlayStation-published PC games that have become unavailable for purchase on Steam in the UK. Helldivers 2 and Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition are among the affected titles, with players noticing that their UK Steam purchase options had disappeared. Sony has described the situation as an availability issue rather than an intentional withdrawal from the market.

The problem was first spotted through SteamDB changes showing new regional purchase restrictions attached to the affected packages. Players in the UK could still access and play games they already owned, but new purchases were blocked through Steam. That distinction is important because the titles themselves were not removed from existing libraries or rendered unplayable for current owners.

Sony subsequently confirmed the situation in a statement to VGC. The company said it was aware of an issue affecting the availability of select titles on Steam in the UK and that it was working with Valve to resolve it. Sony also apologized for the inconvenience, indicating that the delistings were not intended to become permanent.

At least Helldivers 2 and Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition were caught up in the change. Both are major PlayStation-published PC releases, but they represent very different parts of Sony’s current PC strategy. Helldivers 2 is an ongoing multiplayer title developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, while Horizon Forbidden West is Guerrilla Games’ single-player open-world sequel that arrived on PC in March 2024.

Helldivers 2 remains particularly significant for Sony because of its unusually strong multiplatform performance. The game sold 12 million copies across PS5 and PC in its first 12 weeks, becoming PlayStation’s fastest-selling launch at the time. It later expanded to Xbox Series X|S, while Sony has continued supporting the game with major updates, Warbonds and its recent addition to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog.

The timing of the UK Steam issue also comes just days before another Helldivers 2 content release. Arrowhead is launching the Ironclad Democracy Warbond on September 22 with new weapons, armor, boosters and customization items. Players who already own the game on Steam are not prevented from accessing their copies, so the current problem appears limited to storefront availability rather than game services or ownership.

Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition has similarly remained available on PC since its 2024 launch, making the sudden UK restriction unusual. There has been no announcement from Guerrilla Games or Sony suggesting the game is being intentionally withdrawn from Steam. Sony’s statement instead groups the missing titles together as part of a broader issue it is trying to correct with Valve.

The incident also differs from previous regional restrictions applied to some PlayStation PC releases. Sony has faced criticism in the past for limiting availability in countries where PlayStation Network services were unsupported, particularly after the controversy surrounding Helldivers 2’s proposed PSN account requirement in 2024. The company later removed that mandatory linking plan, although some regional Steam restrictions continued to affect PlayStation titles afterward.

There is currently no indication that the latest UK removals are connected to PSN availability, licensing changes or a deliberate change in Sony’s PC publishing strategy. The United Kingdom is a fully supported PlayStation market, and Sony’s own response characterizes the situation simply as an issue affecting Steam availability. Until Sony or Valve provides a technical explanation, the exact cause remains unclear.

Sony has not provided a timetable for when the affected games will return to sale. Existing owners can continue playing them, while prospective buyers in the UK will need to wait for Steam purchase access to be restored. The company says it is actively working with Valve on the issue, suggesting the current regional delistings are temporary rather than a permanent removal of Helldivers 2, Horizon Forbidden West or other affected PlayStation PC titles.
