Infinity Ward has released another Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta update, bringing a fresh round of weapon balance changes alongside visibility, audio and UI improvements for Warzone Resurgence. The August 31 patch is the final major update for the last full day of the Open Beta and makes targeted adjustments across pistols, SMGs, LMGs, marksman rifles and several attachments. Double XP and Double Weapon XP also remain active as players make their final push toward Level 30.

Among the biggest multiplayer changes is a substantial nerf to the Type 73 LMG. Its maximum damage has been reduced from 28 to 22, while its first medium-range damage falls from 22 to 21. Infinity Ward also shortened both of those damage ranges, although neck and upper-torso multipliers were increased to partially improve performance when players land more accurate shots.

The FiNN LMG has also been toned down, with maximum damage dropping from 33 to 30 and its medium-damage range reduced from 47 meters to 43.7 meters. The Oris 8.6 marksman rifle keeps its existing damage values but now reaches its maximum and first medium damage over shorter distances. Together, those changes appear intended to limit some of the stronger long-range options after Infinity Ward reviewed weapon performance throughout the weekend.

Other weapons received buffs instead. The ISO Nightshade SMG now deals 21 maximum damage instead of 20, has slightly longer maximum and medium damage ranges, and receives an increased headshot multiplier from 1.25 to 1.3. The PPSh-41 also gets modest range increases, while the Han 86 receives higher maximum and minimum damage values.

The M4 Hurricane Apex attachment moves in the opposite direction. Its maximum damage has fallen from 30 to 27 and its head-damage multiplier has been reduced from 1.3 to 1.25. Infinity Ward also nerfed two Rezi 12 shotgun barrels, reducing the range benefit of the Haebang 635R-7 long barrel from 25% to 19% and the ZLR Rogue 90 25-inch barrel from 15% to 13%.

Infinity Ward says average time-to-kill is now much closer to its target following the broader changes introduced between the first and second beta weekends. Rather than making another sweeping adjustment across the entire arsenal, the August 31 patch focuses on individual weapons that remain outside the intended balance. The studio says the aim is to ensure each weapon class performs effectively within its expected role.

Warzone’s Zodiac Resurgence map is receiving another significant round of changes as well, particularly around visibility. Infinity Ward adjusted the map’s overall color balance, reduced bloom when moving between interior and exterior spaces and made character outlines brighter and easier to see. Visibility when looking into or out of buildings has also been improved as the developers continue responding to feedback from the beta.

Several audio changes target enemy awareness. Enemy Ascenders have been made louder and given improved audio prioritization, while enemy parachute-landing sounds should now be less likely to become lost among other effects. Supply Boxes, meanwhile, can now only be heard from roughly half the previous distance.

The Resurgence interface has also been cleaned up. Squadmate names will now appear only when players aim directly at their teammates, with adjustments to nameplate size and scaling designed to reduce unnecessary visual clutter. Infinity Ward also fixed a duplicate squadmate indicator issue, while the previously released change reducing the button-hold time required to begin applying armor plates by 30% remains in effect.

The August 31 update arrives after several consecutive days of beta tuning covering movement, time-to-kill, killstreaks, weapon balance and Warzone systems. Transit 213 24/7 and 6v6 Gunfight on Kill Block remain available alongside the broader Multiplayer and Zodiac Resurgence playlists. Modern Warfare 4’s Open Beta is scheduled to conclude on September 1, giving Infinity Ward one final stretch of large-scale player data before turning its attention toward launch.
