GTA 6 Gives Jason and Lucia Separate Criminal Profiles

Grand Theft Auto VI will give Jason and Lucia separate Criminal Profiles, allowing the two protagonists to develop different approaches to crime depending on how each is played. The new details come from GTA creator TGG, who was invited to Rockstar North and shown roughly three hours of the game before discussing the system publicly. The profiles can reportedly influence how certain situations and parts of the story develop, although Rockstar has not detailed the full extent of those consequences.

According to TGG’s account of the preview, GTA 6 currently has four main Criminal Profile states: Professional, Aggressive, Violent and Psycho. The system is not intended to function like the Honor meter in Red Dead Redemption 2, which broadly judged Arthur Morgan’s morality. Instead, it reflects how Jason or Lucia conducts criminal activity, meaning players can remain criminals throughout while still approaching jobs with very different levels of restraint.

A Professional profile is associated with controlling situations and avoiding unnecessary injuries or deaths, while excessive violence can push a character toward Aggressive, Violent and eventually Psycho. The system reportedly does not use a constantly moving numerical or sliding meter. Players instead move between defined states, with their current status visible through the interface and character menu.

There is also reportedly an extreme state beyond Psycho. If a player repeatedly carries out sufficiently severe actions, the Criminal Profile icon can begin to crack before eventually shattering completely. Once that happens, the profile becomes permanently locked for the remainder of that playthrough, preventing the character from simply reversing their reputation after prolonged extreme behavior.

Crucially, Jason and Lucia are tracked independently. A player could therefore maintain a Professional profile for Jason while pushing Lucia toward Psycho, or create any other combination permitted by the system. That separation gives Rockstar another way to differentiate the two playable characters beyond their individual personalities and abilities, while potentially creating different variations in how events unfold during repeat playthroughs.

The exact narrative consequences remain unclear. Reports from the preview indicate that Criminal Profile states can affect certain situations and story outcomes, but there is currently no confirmation that they alter major missions, determine the ending or create entirely separate narrative branches. Rockstar has not publicly detailed those boundaries, so broader claims about multiple endings or major story rewrites would be premature.

Players also appear to retain the freedom traditionally associated with Grand Theft Auto. The Criminal Profile system is designed to react to how someone plays rather than prevent them from causing chaos, and its on-screen notifications can reportedly be disabled. That means players who have little interest in managing a particular profile can continue approaching the open world in a more traditional GTA style.

The mechanic also appears alongside a separate relationship system for Jason and Lucia. Preview information indicates that their relationship has its own states and can develop depending on how much players engage with it, while the two remain partners in crime regardless of whether their romantic relationship is actively maintained. Both pieces of information can reportedly be viewed from a dedicated menu showing the protagonists and their respective statuses.

Taken together, the systems suggest GTA 6 will track player behavior more closely than previous mainline Grand Theft Auto games without replacing the freedom that defines the series. Giving Jason and Lucia independent Criminal Profiles could be particularly significant because decisions made while controlling one protagonist do not automatically define the other. Rockstar has yet to explain exactly how far those differences extend into the campaign, but the latest preview information establishes that the way players commit crimes will be recorded as more than a simple wanted level.
