Microsoft has revealed the first wave of Xbox Game Pass additions for September 2026, with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, RuneScape: Dragonwilds and SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed among the headline releases. The official Xbox Wire announcement covers new arrivals through September 15, alongside several updates, subscriber benefits and ten games scheduled to leave the service during the same period.

The lineup begins with Shelldiver, which joined Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass on September 1 across cloud, console and PC. SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed follows on September 3 for cloud, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The sequel supports competitive local and online racing, including online matches for up to eight players, and is launching into Game Pass on day one.

Dice a Million arrives on September 4 for cloud, Xbox Series X|S, supported handheld devices and PC. The roguelike deck builder is being added to Game Pass Premium while remaining available through Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Its gameplay revolves around building a collection of dice and combining upgrades and equipment in an attempt to reach increasingly large rolls.

One of the most recognizable additions arrives on September 8, when Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War enters Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass. It will be available through cloud, console and PC, bringing Treyarch and Raven Software’s 2020 Call of Duty entry to Microsoft’s subscription catalog. The game includes its Cold War-era single-player campaign alongside multiplayer and Zombies modes.

The Royal Writ and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage both arrive on September 10. The Royal Writ is a medieval roguelike deck builder in which units can be permanently lost as players build armies and work through battles, while Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage brings Sega’s fighting game to cloud, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The latter includes cross-play, rollback netcode, training and replay features, as well as the World Stage single-player mode.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds closes out the announced game additions on September 15 for cloud, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Jagex’s cooperative survival game takes players to Ashenfall, a continent within the RuneScape universe where they gather resources, craft equipment, build settlements and develop skills while preparing to confront dragons. It will be available through Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass.

Microsoft also outlined several Game Pass-related updates outside the main additions. TCG Card Shop Simulator will leave Game Preview and reach its full 1.0 release on September 15 across cloud, Xbox Series X|S, supported handheld devices and PC. EA Play members can meanwhile access a 10-hour early trial of EA Sports NHL 27 from September 4, with progress carrying into the full game for players who later purchase it.

Aniimo is also receiving a Game Pass subscriber benefit beginning September 16. Eligible subscribers will be able to claim a monthly reward pack containing one Aniipod Ultra, 15 Growth Flowers and 300 Glimmer. The benefit applies across Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, Essential and PC Game Pass.

September’s first wave also comes with a sizeable list of departures. Commandos: Origins, Cricket 24, Cyberpunk 2077, Dead Cells, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, Frostpunk 2, Mullet Madjack, Spiritfarer, Superliminal and Train Sim World 5 are all scheduled to leave Game Pass on September 15, although platform availability varies between titles.

The September Wave 1 announcement therefore brings a mixture of established releases and newer games to the service rather than relying on a single major launch. Black Ops Cold War provides the biggest back-catalog addition, while SpeedRunners 2 arrives day one and RuneScape: Dragonwilds expands the month’s selection of survival games. Microsoft is expected to announce another Game Pass update later in the month as the September catalog continues to change.
