Fortnite v42.10 Adds Six New Match Overrides

Fortnite v42.10 is expanding Chapter 7 Season 4’s Match Override system with several new ways to alter Battle Royale matches. Epic Games has officially confirmed Big Head Mode, Prop Hunt and Action Hero as new Overrides in the September 3 update, while Sharpshooter is scheduled to join the pool next Thursday. Dataminer HYPEX has also identified Storm Override and Hunter Scavenger in the updated files, although those two have not been detailed in Epic’s public v42.10 notes.

Big Head Mode is the simplest of the confirmed additions, giving every player in the match an oversized head. Prop Hunt makes a much larger change to normal Battle Royale rules: crouching and remaining stationary for several seconds transforms the player into a prop. That effectively introduces a familiar Fortnite Creative mechanic directly into matches whenever the Override becomes active.

Action Hero is more combat-focused and carries a Mega Man connection. While airborne, aiming a weapon activates Hangtime and increases the player’s damage, encouraging players to attack while jumping or falling rather than staying grounded. Epic has also confirmed that Sharpshooter will arrive next Thursday, improving weapon accuracy while reducing recoil and bloom.

The other two Overrides currently come from datamined information rather than Epic’s update notes. According to HYPEX, Storm Override causes the Storm to focus on the location of the Override Console, potentially forcing players toward the area instead of allowing the circle to develop normally. Hunter Scavenger reportedly marks nearby enemies periodically while also revealing the locations of recent eliminations, which would give players another source of tracking information during a match.

Because Epic does not list Storm Override or Hunter Scavenger among the new Overrides in its September 3 notes, their availability and timing should not yet be treated as officially confirmed. Their presence in the updated game data suggests they are part of Epic’s broader Override plans, but they could be activated later, adjusted before release or remain unused. Sharpshooter provides an example of that staggered approach, since it is already officially announced but will not enter the pool until next week.

Match Overrides are one of the central systems introduced with Fortnite Override. Players can activate Override Consoles during matches to change rules for the entire lobby, while rarer Squad Overrides provide bonuses only to the squad that claims them. Epic recently adjusted the system so that multiple Overrides can appear more frequently during a single match, increasing the chances that Battle Royale rules change several times before the final circle.

Epic says Overrides are now more likely to appear two or three times in a match, while Squad Only Overrides have become slightly less common. That follows another recent adjustment where previously vaulted Overrides returned at reduced spawn rates, allowing Epic to keep more modifiers available without making the strongest effects dominate every match. The expanding selection means individual games can increasingly play out under very different conditions depending on which consoles players activate.

The new Overrides also arrive alongside a broader v42.10 gameplay refresh. Epic has introduced a new Loot Hacks pool featuring Caduceus Staff, Scorpion’s Combat Kit, Wrecker Revolver, Deadeye Assault Rifle and Holo Twister Assault Rifle, while reducing the maximum quality of hacked weapons from Epic-to-Mythic down to Rare-to-Legendary. The new Loot Hacks selection adds another layer of match-to-match variation alongside Overrides, Sprites and Cheat Codes.

For now, Big Head Mode, Prop Hunt and Action Hero are the major confirmed additions available with v42.10, with Sharpshooter following next Thursday. Storm Override and Hunter Scavenger are supported by the latest datamine but remain unconfirmed by Epic. If both eventually enter rotation, Fortnite Override’s modifier pool will have an even wider mix of movement, combat, information and map-level effects capable of changing how individual Battle Royale matches unfold.
