Fortnite v42.10 Brings Back Overwatch and Mortal Kombat Weapons

Fortnite v42.10 is bringing two major crossover weapons back into Battle Royale through the game’s Loot Hacks system. Epic Games’ update notes list Mercy’s Caduceus Staff from Overwatch and Scorpion’s Kombat Kit from Mortal Kombat among five items joining the latest Loot Hacks pool. The Wrecker Revolver, Deadeye Assault Rifle and Holo Twister Assault Rifle complete the refreshed selection.

Loot Hacks are one of the central mechanics of Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, allowing players to spend Sprite Dust to influence the loot that can appear from Chests during matches. Epic says configurations can be reset and respecced within each Loot Hack set, although Sprite Dust invested in one set does not carry over when the pool refreshes. The system arrived alongside Match Overrides and other mechanics introduced with the current season, while the September 3 v42.10 update expands several of those systems.

Mercy’s Caduceus Staff originally entered Fortnite during the Overwatch collaboration in May 2026. Epic described the item as a support weapon capable of attaching a healing beam to teammates to restore health and shields, while also allowing the player carrying it to glide through the air. Its return through Loot Hacks gives players access to one of the collaboration’s more utility-focused items without requiring the full Overwatch event to return.

    Fortnite-Mortal-Kombat

Scorpion’s Kombat Kit has a similar history as a returning collaboration item. Epic first added the Mortal Kombat weapon in April 2025 alongside Scorpion, with the standard version appearing in Chests and a Mythic version obtainable by defeating the character. The kit combines close-range combo attacks with Scorpion’s spear, which can hook an opponent and pull them toward the user. Its addition to the Loot Hacks pool brings that gameplay back more than a year after its original Battle Royale appearance.

The other three weapons provide more conventional ranged options. The Wrecker Revolver, Deadeye Assault Rifle and Holo Twister Assault Rifle are all part of the new Loot Hacks rotation, giving players several different paths when deciding how to spend Sprite Dust. Epic is also reducing the overall power ceiling of hacked loot in v42.10, with Loot Hacks now producing Rare through Legendary weapons rather than the previous Epic-to-Mythic range.

Epic says the change follows concerns that Loot Hacks were producing high-powered weapons too frequently. That makes the new pool more than a simple content rotation: players are receiving several notable returning items, but the system surrounding them is being tuned at the same time. The update also includes weapon balance adjustments affecting the Pump Shotgun, 8-Bit Shotgun, Assault Rifle and Mega Buster.

Loot Hacks are not the only Override mechanic changing in v42.10. Epic is also adding new Match Overrides, including [[LINK|https://www.techtroduce.com/fortnite-prop-hunt-big-head-overrides-v42-10/|Prop Hunt and Big Head modes]], alongside Action Hero and a Sharpshooter Override scheduled for the following week. Together, the changes make v42.10 a broader gameplay update rather than simply the launch point for Fortnite OG Season X.

For crossover fans, however, the Caduceus Staff and Scorpion’s Kombat Kit are the standout additions. Both are previously released collaboration weapons with distinctive mechanics, and their inclusion in Loot Hacks allows Epic to reuse them within the current season’s customization system rather than bringing back their original events wholesale. With the Loot Hacks pool now refreshed, players can once again build around Mercy’s support utility or Scorpion’s close-range combat while progressing through Override.
