Epic Games has confirmed that Prop Hunt and Big Head Overrides are coming to Fortnite in the v42.10 update, expanding Chapter 7 Season 4’s match-changing Override system with two more unconventional effects.
The confirmation came directly from Fortnite Status while Epic was explaining a separate round of live balance changes to the current Override season. Epic said it had been monitoring player feedback and found that several squad-based and lethality-focused Overrides were making eliminations happen too quickly and causing matches to feel more competitive than intended.
According to Epic, combinations involving those stronger Overrides were also creating a snowball effect, where squads that gained an early advantage could become increasingly difficult for the rest of the lobby to challenge.
The developer’s goal with the latest changes is to slow that down and make fights feel fairer while preserving the unpredictable combinations that form the core of the Override mechanic.
Epic followed that explanation by confirming that additional “absurd” Overrides are coming in v42.10, specifically naming Prop Hunt and Big Head.
Prop Hunt had already appeared through datamining before Epic’s announcement. Leaked game data indicated the Override would allow players to transform into environmental props after crouching and remaining still for a short period.
That behavior would effectively bring one of Fortnite Creative’s most familiar concepts directly into normal Battle Royale matches through the Override system. Epic has not yet published the complete final rules for the Battle Royale version, so individual timings and limitations found in datamined files could still change before release.
Big Head is more straightforward. Datamined information previously suggested that activating the Override would give players dramatically enlarged heads across the match.
Epic’s Fortnite Status post now confirms that both concepts are genuinely planned for release rather than simply being unused or experimental entries discovered in the files.
The additions fit the design of Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, which revolves around Override Consoles that can alter rules for an entire server. Existing effects can change movement, healing, loot, stamina, weapon behavior and other fundamental parts of a Battle Royale match.
Rare Squad Overrides work differently by providing advantages only to the squad that secures them, although claiming one can reveal that squad’s location to other players.
Epic recently adjusted that system after deciding some of the more aggressive options were pushing time-to-elimination too low. Several lethality-focused buffs have been vaulted, including effects associated with increased headshot damage and faster weapon fire.
The studio has also increased the likelihood of matches rolling multiple Overrides, meaning players should encounter combinations of different rule changes more frequently.
Prop Hunt and Big Head represent a different direction. Rather than simply making weapons stronger or players harder to eliminate, they lean into the deliberately chaotic side of the Override concept.
Fortnite v42.10 is currently targeted for September 3, 2026. Epic has referenced the version and date in its developer-facing update information, although full Battle Royale patch notes have not yet been published.
Additional Overrides have also been discovered through datamining, including concepts involving invisibility, altered Storm behavior, reduced recoil, health siphoning and slowed time while aiming in mid-air. Those remain unconfirmed for specific updates unless Epic announces them separately.
For now, Prop Hunt and Big Head are the two notable additions Epic has directly named for v42.10.
With the latest balance changes reducing some of Override’s most lethal combinations, the September update appears set to shift more of the system’s focus toward unusual match-wide effects rather than straightforward combat buffs.
