Marvel Rivals has officially revealed Gorr the God Butcher as the headline character for Season 10, ending weeks of speculation surrounding the game’s next major addition. NetEase confirmed Gorr through the new Season 10 trailer, titled Butcher’s Blasphemy, ahead of the season’s September 11 launch. His appearance turns what had previously been suggested through story clues, leaks and store artwork into an official character reveal.

The trailer places Gorr at the center of the next chapter of Marvel Rivals’ ongoing seasonal narrative. The God Butcher is shown pursuing Marvel’s divine characters, fitting directly with the mythology established during Season 9: The Mystery of Thebes. Gorr’s arrival also provides context for several unusual changes that have appeared in the game immediately before Season 10.

Most notably, Loki recently disappeared from several Marvel Rivals modes, with his roster status changing to “Missing.” He remained available in Competitive while being disabled in modes including Quick Play, Arcade and Practice vs AI, and NetEase initially provided no straightforward gameplay explanation for the move. With Gorr now officially revealed, the disappearance appears closely connected to Season 10’s story buildup rather than a conventional balance decision.

Gorr had already been heavily foreshadowed before the trailer. Season 9’s storyline revolved around Apocalypse’s attempt to absorb divine faith and pursue cosmic ascension, before a mysterious attacker intervened. Later lore and promotional material increasingly pointed toward Gorr, while Season 10 key art surfaced ahead of schedule through the PlayStation Store and showed the character prominently.

The new trailer removes the remaining uncertainty around whether Gorr would actually headline the upcoming season. Marvel Rivals had referenced him through its narrative, and leaks had repeatedly connected him to Season 10, but NetEase had stopped short of a formal playable-character reveal until now. The studio has not yet detailed his complete ability kit, combat role or Team-Up abilities in the material currently available.

In Marvel Comics, Gorr is best known as one of Thor’s major enemies and wields All-Black the Necrosword during his crusade against gods. His hatred of divine beings defines much of his comic storyline, making Marvel Rivals’ decision to build the season around disappearing or endangered god characters a natural extension of the source material. The game’s version also appears visually closer to Gorr’s comic-inspired design than the interpretation seen in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Season 10 is scheduled to begin on September 11, replacing Season 9 and bringing the usual seasonal reset alongside new content. NetEase has not yet published the full launch patch notes, so balance adjustments, additional maps, events and store additions remain to be detailed. More information about Gorr’s gameplay is also expected before the update goes live.

The reveal comes as Marvel Rivals continues its aggressive character-release schedule. Season 9 introduced Jubilee before The Hood arrived with the 9.5 update, expanding an already large roster of Marvel heroes and villains. Gorr now becomes the next major addition and shifts the story away from Thebes toward a conflict centered more directly on Marvel’s gods.

For now, the main confirmed development is that Gorr the God Butcher is no longer simply a leaked or teased Season 10 candidate. The Butcher’s Blasphemy trailer formally places him at the center of Marvel Rivals’ next season, with his debut tied to the September 11 update. NetEase still has several important details left to reveal, particularly his abilities, class and the full scope of Season 10’s gameplay changes.
