Bloober Team has officially revealed Onyx: The Dark Grip, a new supernatural horror game coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. The project was announced during Nintendo’s September 9 Direct, confirming the identity of the studio’s previously teased Nintendo collaboration known publicly as Project M. A more specific release date has not yet been announced.
The reveal trailer presents a darker, combat-focused horror experience built around supernatural threats and close-quarters encounters. Bloober Team has described the game as an original title created specifically for Nintendo hardware, rather than a port or adaptation of one of its existing franchises. The footage also establishes a distinctly action-oriented tone compared with some of the studio’s earlier psychological horror releases.
Onyx: The Dark Grip had been the subject of speculation long before its formal unveiling. Bloober Team previously confirmed that it was working on a separate Nintendo project and described the collaboration as being influenced by horror touchstones such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill. That earlier tease now connects directly to Bloober Team’s Nintendo-exclusive horror project, which has now been given its final title and first public gameplay footage.
The game also appears to be the same project that surfaced through trademarks and cryptic promotional material earlier in development. Bloober Team had used countdowns and coded messaging around several of its upcoming projects, contributing to speculation about what Project M would eventually become. The official reveal now ends that uncertainty and confirms that Onyx: The Dark Grip is the Nintendo-focused title in the studio’s broader horror lineup.
Bloober Team has expanded rapidly in recent years and has several projects in development at once. The studio is best known for games such as Layers of Fear, The Medium and the Silent Hill 2 remake, while also working on additional original and licensed horror projects. Bloober Team previously confirmed multiple games in active development, reflecting its broader strategy of growing beyond a single-project studio.
The Switch 2 exclusivity is one of the most notable parts of the announcement. Bloober Team’s recent major releases have generally targeted PlayStation, Xbox and PC, so developing a dedicated horror title specifically for Nintendo’s newer console represents a different approach. It also gives Switch 2 another third-party exclusive aimed at an older audience rather than the family-focused software more commonly associated with Nintendo’s first-party lineup.
Nintendo has been working to broaden Switch 2’s third-party support since launch, particularly in areas where the original Switch often received delayed or technically compromised versions of larger games. Onyx: The Dark Grip stands apart because it is not being retrofitted for the system after development elsewhere. Instead, Bloober Team has positioned it as a project built specifically around Nintendo’s current hardware.
The trailer suggests a mix of exploration, environmental tension and direct combat, but Bloober Team has not yet detailed the game’s core systems. The studio has also not revealed the protagonist’s identity, the full setting, progression mechanics or whether the game will include any multiplayer features. Those details are likely to follow as development moves closer to its 2027 launch window.
The project’s title also leaves room for speculation about how the “Dark Grip” concept factors into gameplay or narrative, but Bloober Team has not explained the meaning behind it. For now, the reveal primarily establishes the game’s tone, visual direction and exclusivity rather than providing a full mechanical breakdown.
Onyx: The Dark Grip is scheduled to launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. The announcement finally gives a name and public identity to Bloober Team’s long-teased Nintendo project, while adding another original horror title to the studio’s growing slate.
