PLAION REPLAI has delayed the worldwide launch of the Neo Geo AES+ from November 12, 2026 to September 16, 2027. The company says global component supply constraints have made it impossible to manufacture enough units for the originally planned launch. Existing preorders will remain valid and retain their priority position, while PLAION says there will be no price increase as a result of the delay.

The Neo Geo AES+ was announced in April as a modern recreation of SNK’s original Neo Geo AES home console, timed around the hardware’s 35th anniversary. Demand has apparently exceeded PLAION’s expectations, leaving the company facing the prospect of releasing the system with severely limited worldwide availability. Rather than launch a small quantity in November and leave many customers waiting, PLAION says it will spend the additional time securing components and increasing manufacturing capacity.

The company specifically points to global component shortages as the reason it cannot produce the volume required. PLAION says the extra development window will allow it to obtain the necessary parts while scaling up production for a larger simultaneous release. The delay is significant, moving the console roughly 10 months beyond its previously announced November date.

Customers who have already placed orders do not need to take any action. PLAION says those preorders remain secure and will keep their priority place in the production queue when shipments eventually begin. Pricing is also staying unchanged, meaning the Standard Edition will continue to carry its existing regional retail price rather than receiving an increase because of the additional manufacturing costs or extended development period.

PLAION is also preparing a Founding Supporter Bonus for consoles shipped from the launch production run. The company has positioned the additional item as compensation for customers affected by the lengthy delay, although availability and the exact reward can vary depending on the edition purchased. More information about the bonus and launch arrangements is expected before the new September 2027 date.

The Neo Geo AES+ is designed as more than a conventional emulation box. PLAION describes it as a hardware-faithful recreation powered by re-engineered ASIC technology intended to reproduce the original Neo Geo hardware while retaining compatibility with cartridge-based games. It can play both newly produced Neo Geo AES+ cartridges and original AES software, preserving the physical format that helped distinguish SNK’s premium home system.

Modern conveniences have been added alongside that compatibility. The console supports HDMI output up to 1080p while also retaining analog AV connectivity for players who want to use older CRT displays. Other planned additions include modern power and connectivity options, configurable system settings and updated controllers designed around the original Neo Geo hardware.

PLAION and SNK had also announced a new cartridge lineup alongside the system. Games scheduled for the platform include Metal Slug, The King of Fighters 2002, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Samurai Shodown V Special, Shock Troopers, Pulstar, Twinkle Star Sprites, Magician Lord, Over Top and Big Tournament Golf. Those physical releases are intended to work alongside original AES cartridges rather than replacing compatibility with the existing library.

The Standard Edition was announced at $249.99 in the United States, £179.99 in the UK and €199.99 in Europe. A white Anniversary Edition was also revealed at $349.99, £269.99 and €299.99, with additional accessories and Metal Slug included. PLAION’s delay announcement states that pricing will not rise, preserving those original launch targets despite the substantially later release.

The Neo Geo AES+ is now scheduled to launch worldwide on September 16, 2027. PLAION says the additional time is being used to secure components and expand manufacturing rather than ship the console in extremely limited quantities, while customers who already preordered will retain their place for the revised launch.
