IKEA Releases Skyrim Mod With Matt Berry as a KALLAX Shelf

IKEA has released an official Skyrim collaboration that turns its KALLAX shelving unit into a fully voiced companion. Called KALLAX STORAGEBORN, the free Creation launched on September 9 for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition on PC and Xbox, with a PlayStation version planned to follow. The character is voiced by actor Matt Berry and is designed around one of Skyrim’s most familiar problems: carrying too much loot.

Rather than simply adding an IKEA-themed object to a player home, KALLAX follows the Dragonborn around Skyrim and functions as a mobile storage companion. IKEA says the companion has an effectively unmatched carrying capacity, allowing players to offload items without constantly managing encumbrance. Once unlocked, KALLAX can accompany players throughout Skyrim and can also be summoned when needed.

The Creation includes a dedicated quest that begins when the player becomes over-encumbered. From there, players are sent into new locations as they investigate the origins of KALLAX and confront what IKEA describes as Skyrim’s ultimate enemy: clutter. The collaboration adds new dungeons, enemies and a boss encounter rather than limiting itself to a cosmetic crossover.

IKEA-themed equipment is also included. The most obvious addition is the Allenblade, a weapon inspired by the Allen keys commonly associated with flat-pack furniture, while the Meatball Helmet gives another familiar IKEA reference a place in Tamriel. The Creation also introduces additional loot and other themed items tied to the questline.

Matt Berry provides the voice for KALLAX itself, giving the shelving unit a much more elaborate role than a conventional storage chest. Berry is known for his distinctive delivery in shows including What We Do in the Shadows and Toast of London, and the Creation leans heavily into that theatrical style. The result is a companion built as both a practical inventory-management tool and the central character in an intentionally absurd crossover.

KALLAX STORAGEBORN was developed with Kinggath Creations, the team behind several other Bethesda Creations and the Sim Settlements projects. The studio has previously produced substantial Skyrim additions including East Empire Expansion and Bards College Expansion, both of which expanded existing systems with new quests and mechanics. That background helps explain why the IKEA collaboration goes considerably further than a simple branded item pack.

IKEA says the project came from its broader focus on storage and organization, extending the same idea into a game where players regularly struggle with inventory limits. The company openly frames the Creation as a solution to Skyrim’s clutter problem, turning one of its most recognizable shelving products into an in-game utility. Unlike many branded game collaborations, however, the download itself is completely free through Bethesda Creations.

The Creation is currently available for Skyrim Special Edition on PC and Xbox. IKEA says PlayStation support is coming soon, though it has not provided a specific release date for that version. Players need access to Bethesda Creations and a compatible version of Skyrim Special Edition to install it.

KALLAX STORAGEBORN stands out because the collaboration is not simply a promotional skin placed inside an existing game. It adds a companion, new gameplay functionality, quests, dungeons, equipment and voice acting around the central storage concept. Nearly 15 years after Skyrim first launched, IKEA has effectively turned inventory management into a full branded side adventure, complete with a talking shelf designed to carry the player’s burdens.
