OpenAI has launched ChatGPT for Financial Services, a new finance-focused version of ChatGPT Work powered by GPT-6 Astra and built around research, financial modeling and client-material workflows. The product combines OpenAI’s latest reasoning model with integrated financial datasets and tools designed for analysts, bankers and other financial-services teams. OpenAI says the system is available now and is intended to bring research, modeling and document creation into a single workspace.
A central part of the product is built-in access to financial data. OpenAI says datasets from Daloopa, PitchBook and LSEG News are included, allowing users to work with company fundamentals, market information and financial research without manually collecting every input from separate services. The company is also supporting integrations with additional providers, extending the range of market and company data that can be brought into ChatGPT.
GPT-6 Astra sits underneath the experience and is being positioned as the reasoning engine for more demanding financial work. OpenAI launched Astra earlier in September as its most capable model for complex professional tasks, with stronger performance in areas including research, document creation, computer use and multistep workflows. In the financial-services product, that capability is being applied to tasks such as company research, valuation work, analysis and producing materials for clients.

OpenAI is also emphasizing traceability rather than asking users to accept generated analysis without context. The product can connect figures and claims back to specific paragraphs, tables and supporting passages, allowing users to inspect the evidence behind an answer while they work. That is particularly important in financial research, where a numerical conclusion can depend heavily on the underlying filing, transcript, market-data point or source document.
The system is designed to produce editable work rather than only conversational responses. OpenAI says teams can create financial models, research notes and pitchbooks using their firm’s own Excel, Word and PowerPoint templates, keeping outputs closer to the formats already used internally. That could allow analysts to move from research and source gathering into a finished model or presentation without rebuilding the same work manually across several applications.
OpenAI has been building toward this release throughout 2026. Earlier this year, the company expanded ChatGPT’s finance capabilities with ChatGPT for Excel and integrations for providers including LSEG, Daloopa, FactSet and other financial-data services. The new Financial Services product packages those efforts into a more specialized Work experience rather than treating finance as a collection of separate tools inside the general ChatGPT interface.
The launch also reflects OpenAI’s push deeper into regulated enterprise workflows. Financial institutions typically require tighter controls around internal data, permissions, auditability and information handling than consumer AI products provide. OpenAI says its enterprise offering includes features such as role-based access controls, encryption, audit logs and administrative governance, while company data submitted through ChatGPT Enterprise is not used to train its models by default.
The product has been developed with input from financial institutions, including Morgan Stanley and Evercore, according to reporting around the launch. OpenAI already works with banks, asset managers and other financial firms using ChatGPT for research, underwriting, due diligence and internal analysis. Turning those workflows into a dedicated vertical product gives the company a more direct way to compete for professional finance workloads rather than relying solely on general-purpose AI adoption.
ChatGPT for Financial Services is therefore less about introducing a single new AI capability and more about combining several existing pieces into one purpose-built system. GPT-6 Astra provides the reasoning layer, financial-data providers supply structured and market information, and ChatGPT Work handles the research, modeling and document-generation workflow around them. For OpenAI, the launch marks one of its clearest moves yet toward industry-specific versions of ChatGPT designed around the daily work of a particular professional sector.
