IO Interactive has delayed the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light to March 2027, extending a platform-specific postponement that had previously moved the port into summer 2026. The PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC versions are unaffected, having already launched on May 27. IO Interactive has not yet announced the exact March release date.

The studio says the additional development time will be used specifically to improve performance on Nintendo’s hardware. In a statement accompanying the delay, IO Interactive said it wants to deliver the level of quality players expect and will spend the extra months polishing the Switch 2 version. That makes this delay narrower than the earlier postponement of the full game, with work now focused on one platform rather than the overall release.

007 First Light was originally expected to launch across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2 together. In April, however, IO Interactive moved the Switch 2 edition to “later this summer” while keeping the other versions on schedule for May 27. The company did not provide a detailed technical explanation at the time, only saying it wanted to provide the best possible experience across platforms.

The latest update makes that reasoning more explicit. IO Interactive directly identified Switch 2 performance as the area requiring additional polish, although it did not outline specific frame-rate, resolution or graphics targets. The studio has also not detailed which visual or technical features from the PS5, Xbox and PC versions will carry over unchanged.

Development appears to be far enough along for the Switch 2 build to remain publicly playable. IO Interactive said the version shown at Gamescom received positive feedback and confirmed that the same demo will be available at Tokyo Game Show this week. That gives players another opportunity to try the port despite the commercial release now being pushed several months further out.

007 First Light itself has already become a major release for IO Interactive. The game launched worldwide in May and reached 4 million copies sold within its first three months, according to the developer. The Switch 2 edition will therefore arrive well after the initial launch period rather than alongside the broader marketing push that accompanied the other platforms.

The game presents an original reimagining of James Bond’s origin, following a 26-year-old Bond before he becomes the fully established 007 agent. IO Interactive built the project around a mixture of stealth, action, social manipulation, gadgets and vehicle sequences, using systems influenced by the studio’s work on Hitman while creating a more cinematic structure around Bond’s early career. Patrick Gibson portrays Bond in the game.

The existing PS5, Xbox and PC versions have also continued receiving post-launch updates since release. IO Interactive has issued stability improvements, quality-of-life changes and additional content, including new TacSim missions, weapons and outfits. Those updates mean the eventual Switch 2 release could potentially benefit from several months of fixes and refinements already made to the game, although IO Interactive has not confirmed exactly which post-launch content will be included at launch on Nintendo’s platform.

The delay also means 007 First Light joins a growing group of releases shifting into 2027, though its situation is somewhat different because the game is already available elsewhere. Unlike No Rest for the Wicked’s move to March 2027, this postponement affects only one platform rather than the entire release. The main issue appears to be optimizing an existing game for Switch 2 rather than extending development of the underlying title.

IO Interactive has not announced whether the Switch 2 version will receive any platform-specific features, nor has it confirmed a precise March date. For now, Nintendo players will have to wait until March 2027 to play 007 First Light, with the studio using the additional time to improve performance before Bond makes his Switch 2 debut.
