Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is joining Xbox Game Pass Premium on September 25, expanding access beyond the Ultimate and PC Game Pass tiers that have carried the game since launch. Microsoft confirmed the addition as part of its latest Game Pass lineup, listing Black Ops 6 for cloud, console, handheld and PC. The change gives Premium subscribers access to one of Call of Duty’s biggest recent releases without moving to the more expensive Ultimate plan.

Black Ops 6 originally launched on October 25, 2024 and became the first new Call of Duty title to release directly into Game Pass on day one. At launch, it was available through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, while Microsoft’s lower console tier did not include new day-one releases. The September 25 move therefore represents the game’s first expansion into the current Premium tier rather than a new addition to Game Pass overall.

Microsoft’s current Game Pass structure positions Premium between Essential and Ultimate. Premium includes more than 200 games across console, PC and supported devices, cloud gaming and online console multiplayer, while Xbox-published games generally enter the tier within a year of release rather than on day one. Black Ops 6 arriving roughly 11 months after launch fits that model closely.

The addition also continues Microsoft’s gradual expansion of older Call of Duty releases across more Game Pass tiers. Black Ops Cold War recently joined Game Pass Premium alongside Ultimate and PC Game Pass, giving subscribers another major Black Ops campaign, multiplayer suite and Zombies experience. That release followed Microsoft’s broader effort to bring more of Activision’s back catalogue into the subscription service.

Black Ops 6 includes its full single-player campaign from Raven Software, Treyarch’s competitive multiplayer and round-based Zombies. The campaign follows operators including Troy Marshall, Frank Woods and Russell Adler through a conspiracy set during the early 1990s, while multiplayer introduced Omnimovement as one of the game’s major mechanical changes. Zombies launched with Terminus and Liberty Falls and later expanded through additional seasonal maps and content.

Its move to Premium is also notable because Call of Duty has become one of the most important franchises in Microsoft’s subscription strategy following its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The modern Call of Duty lineup is already available through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, but access across lower tiers has been less consistent. Premium’s delayed-release model gives Microsoft a way to bring major first-party games to more subscribers after their initial launch period.

The September 25 addition comes during a busy period for Call of Duty. Black Ops 7 and Warzone are moving into Season 06 on September 17, while Activision is also preparing its shared Call of Duty installation for Modern Warfare 4. That process includes repacking Black Ops 7 and Warzone content to reduce their overall storage footprint before Modern Warfare 4 launches.

Microsoft’s latest Game Pass update includes several other September additions, but Black Ops 6 is one of the more significant upgrades specifically for Premium subscribers because it was already available elsewhere in the service. Unlike a new day-one Game Pass release, the change is primarily about broadening eligibility to another subscription tier. Existing Ultimate and PC Game Pass members will see no change to their access.

For Premium members, however, September 25 removes the need to upgrade to Ultimate solely to access Black Ops 6 through the subscription. Microsoft currently says Xbox-published games generally reach Premium within one year of launch, although individual titles and timing can vary. Black Ops 6 now provides a clear example of how that delayed-release policy is being applied to a major Activision title.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 joins Xbox Game Pass Premium on September 25 across cloud, console, handheld and PC. The game remains available through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass as well.
