Capcom has revealed Teostra as another returning Elder Dragon for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, alongside several gameplay and quality-of-life improvements coming with the expansion. The reveal came during Capcom’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 Spotlight, where an extended version of the latest Ascendance trailer provided a closer look at the upcoming 2027 expansion. Capcom also confirmed that some of the newly announced convenience features will be added to the base version of Monster Hunter Wilds rather than being locked behind the expansion.
Teostra appears in the extended trailer as one of the Elder Dragons hunters will encounter as the ecological situation in the Forbidden Lands continues to deteriorate. The fire-breathing monster has been a recurring part of the series for years, using explosive blast attacks and a heat-based aura to pressure hunters at close range. Its return adds another established Elder Dragon to an expansion already built heavily around the sudden appearance of powerful monsters across the region.
Ascendance previously confirmed the return of Lao-Shan Lung, whose arrival sets much of the expansion’s story in motion. The Expedition Team responds to the threat by constructing Madoi Stronghold while investigating the ecological disturbances spreading throughout the Forbidden Lands. Those events eventually lead hunters toward the Skybound Eyrie and several newly revealed monsters, including Araketa and the storm-controlling Elder Dragon Gundoraja.

Capcom also used the TGS presentation to show more of Lao-Shan Lung and the Expedition Team’s developing base. Ascendance takes place after the main Monster Hunter Wilds story, with time having passed and familiar characters changing alongside the world around them. Hunters will need to have completed the seven-star quest “Awaking from a Dream” before they can enter the expansion’s Master Rank content.
Several practical improvements were revealed alongside the monster footage. Hunters will be able to swap weapons more quickly without relying on their Seikret mount, reducing the downtime involved when changing between two equipped weapons. Equipment will also be changeable through an Item Box outside the tent, removing another restriction that currently forces players to enter their camp tent for certain loadout adjustments.
Capcom is also improving the way monster information is communicated. The updated interface will provide more detailed information about monster hide toughness, giving hunters a clearer understanding of which body parts are resistant or vulnerable to particular attacks. These changes are intended to make preparation and moment-to-moment combat decisions easier without fundamentally altering the hunting structure.
Importantly, Capcom says those quality-of-life improvements are not exclusive to Ascendance. They will also be incorporated into the base Monster Hunter Wilds experience, meaning players who do not purchase the expansion should still benefit from faster weapon switching, easier equipment management and expanded monster information. Ascendance itself will remain the paid path to the new Master Rank quests, locations, story and monsters.
The expansion’s larger combat overhaul centers on the Boost Bracer, which adds new Boosted Actions across all 14 weapon types. Capcom has spent the past several weeks releasing individual weapon showcases, including new Great Sword Boosted Actions and separate demonstrations for Sword & Shield, Bow, Long Sword and other weapon classes. Players build Boost Bracer energy by staying aggressive, then spend it on enhanced attacks, new combos and weapon-specific actions.
Those mechanics are designed to accompany the step up to Master Rank, which will introduce tougher monsters and more demanding encounters than the base game. Teostra’s appearance fits directly into that structure, adding another high-level Elder Dragon to a roster that already includes returning and newly created threats. Capcom has not yet revealed every monster planned for Ascendance, leaving room for further announcements before launch.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is scheduled for 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Monster Hunter Wilds itself is also coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2026, though Capcom has not currently listed Switch 2 among the announced Ascendance platforms. More details on Teostra, the new base facilities and the expansion’s remaining monsters are expected as development continues toward release.
