Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2026. The new version was shown during Nintendo’s September 9 Direct and will support cross-play with players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Capcom is also adding local wireless multiplayer specifically for the Switch 2 release, while all free title updates released for Wilds before launch will be included.
The announcement gives the Switch 2 version a firm date roughly three months after Capcom first confirmed it was in development. Wilds originally launched for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in February 2025, with Nintendo hardware absent from the initial platform lineup. Capcom publicly revealed the Switch 2 version in June 2026 alongside the announcement of the game’s upcoming Ascendance expansion, but did not provide a release window at the time.
Local wireless play is one of the more distinctive additions to the Nintendo version. Switch 2 players will be able to connect nearby systems and hunt together without relying exclusively on internet matchmaking, bringing back a style of local multiplayer long associated with portable Monster Hunter releases. Online cross-play will remain available as well, allowing Switch 2 hunters to join the existing player base across the other supported platforms.

The Switch 2 edition will also arrive substantially more complete than Wilds did at its original launch. Capcom says all previously released free title updates will be included, giving new players immediate access to monsters, quests, seasonal content and other additions introduced throughout the game’s post-launch support. That means Switch 2 owners will not be starting from the February 2025 version and waiting for the existing content roadmap to catch up.
Monster Hunter Wilds takes players to the Forbidden Lands as part of an Expedition Team investigating a mysterious creature known as the White Wraith. The game retains the series’ 14 weapon types while introducing more dynamic ecosystems that can shift dramatically between harsh periods and more abundant environments. It also added Focus Mode, more seamless movement between settlements and hunting areas, and full cross-platform multiplayer for the first time in the main series.
The Switch 2 release is arriving ahead of another major expansion of Wilds. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is scheduled for 2027, bringing new quest ranks, locales, monsters and expanded weapon mechanics to the game. Capcom has confirmed that Ascendance is also being developed for Switch 2, meaning Nintendo players will be included when the paid expansion launches rather than being left on a separate content track.
Ascendance has already introduced the Skybound Eyrie as one of its new areas, alongside monsters including Araketa and Gundoraja and the return of Lao-Shan Lung. Capcom has also started detailing new Boosted Actions tied to individual weapons, including changes for the Great Sword and several other weapon types. Those systems will eventually become relevant to the Switch 2 audience once the expansion arrives.
Wilds has been one of Capcom’s most commercially significant releases in recent years. The game passed 10 million copies sold worldwide within its first month, setting a company record at the time. Expanding onto Switch 2 gives Capcom access to another major audience while preserving compatibility with the existing multiplayer community through cross-play.
Capcom has not yet detailed every technical specification for the Switch 2 version, including its final resolution and frame-rate targets across handheld and docked modes. More information is expected ahead of launch as the company prepares the port for release. Monster Hunter Wilds arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, with pre-orders set to open through the Nintendo eShop on October 19.
