Ubisoft is bringing Far Cry 3 Classic Edition and Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Classic Edition to Nintendo Switch 2 in spring 2027. Both games were confirmed during Nintendo’s September 9 Direct, marking the first time either version has been released on Nintendo hardware. Ubisoft has not yet announced a specific launch date or pricing for the Switch 2 versions.

Far Cry 3 Classic Edition puts players in the role of Jason Brody after he and his friends become stranded on a lawless tropical island controlled by pirates and other hostile groups. The open-world first-person shooter combines gunplay, stealth, exploration, hunting and crafting, with players gradually unlocking new abilities while attempting to rescue Jason’s captured friends. Vaas Montenegro, portrayed by Michael Mando, remains one of the game’s defining characters and became one of the Far Cry series’ best-known antagonists.

The Classic Edition is based on the enhanced console version Ubisoft released in 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. That edition focuses on Far Cry 3’s single-player campaign and updated the game for newer hardware compared with the original 2012 release. Ubisoft has not yet detailed whether the Switch 2 edition will receive additional visual or performance improvements beyond bringing the existing Classic Edition to Nintendo’s newer system.

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Classic Edition is a separate release rather than an expansion that requires Far Cry 3. The standalone shooter stars Sergeant Rex “Power” Colt, a cyber commando operating in a deliberately exaggerated vision of a dystopian future inspired by 1980s action movies, VHS aesthetics and science-fiction clichés. Its neon-heavy environments, robotic enemies and intentionally over-the-top presentation make it substantially different in tone from Far Cry 3 despite sharing much of the same underlying gameplay structure.

Ubisoft released the original Blood Dragon in 2013 before producing Blood Dragon Classic Edition for modern consoles in 2021. That updated version brought the standalone game to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with revised presentation for newer hardware. Like Far Cry 3 Classic Edition, the Switch 2 release will give Nintendo players access to a game that previously skipped the company’s platforms entirely.

Nintendo’s official Direct recap confirms that both games are scheduled for spring 2027 but does not list detailed technical specifications. Resolution, frame-rate targets, file sizes and any Switch 2-specific features have not been announced. It is also unclear whether Ubisoft plans to sell the two games individually, bundle them together or offer any upgrade or ownership benefits tied to existing Ubisoft accounts.

The announcement adds another established third-party franchise to Switch 2’s 2027 schedule. Ubisoft’s two Far Cry releases join a growing lineup of larger multiplatform games being adapted for Nintendo’s current hardware, alongside projects such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Royal Edition and newly confirmed releases such as Persona 6 on Switch 2. The broader lineup suggests publishers are increasingly treating Switch 2 as a viable destination for games and franchises that were either absent from the original Switch or arrived there only selectively.

Far Cry 3 itself remains one of the most influential entries in Ubisoft’s open-world shooter series. Its combination of outpost clearing, hunting, crafting, skill progression and large explorable environments established a structure that later Far Cry games continued to develop. Blood Dragon subsequently demonstrated how the same foundation could be reworked into a much shorter and more stylized standalone experience.

Neither Switch 2 release has been positioned as a remake or newly expanded edition. Nintendo and Ubisoft are specifically referring to the existing Classic Edition versions, so expectations should remain focused on ports unless additional improvements are announced. More information about performance, pricing and exact release timing is likely to arrive closer to launch.

Far Cry 3 Classic Edition and Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Classic Edition will both launch for Nintendo Switch 2 in spring 2027. Their arrival gives the two Ubisoft shooters their first Nintendo releases more than a decade after the original games debuted.
