Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes I & II Announced for 2027

Edia has announced Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes I & II for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. The RPG collection is scheduled to launch worldwide in 2027 and brings the PC Engine versions of two early Nihon Falcom role-playing games to modern platforms. Edia revealed the expanded platform lineup through its game catalog distributed at Tokyo Game Show 2026, where the first game is also playable at the company’s booth.

The collection includes Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes and Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes II, both of which were released for PC Engine CD-ROM² in the early 1990s. The first arrived in Japan on October 25, 1991, while its sequel followed on December 23, 1992. Both titles originated as part of Falcom’s wider Dragon Slayer series before The Legend of Heroes developed into a long-running RPG franchise of its own.

Edia specifically highlights the PC Engine edition of the first game, which added voiced dialogue for the main character in selected scenes. The company has not yet detailed exactly what enhancements will be included in the new collection beyond bringing the games to current hardware. Features such as save states, display options, language support and other quality-of-life additions have not been formally announced, while pricing and a more specific 2027 release date also remain unknown.

The project stems from a licensing agreement Edia signed with Nihon Falcom in September 2025. That deal gave Edia worldwide commercialization rights for several PC Engine releases spanning Ys, Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes and The Legend of Xanadu. Edia said at the time that it planned to use its experience with retro-game collections to create releases that would offer more than simple ports.

The licensed lineup includes Ys I & II, Ys III, Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys, both Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes games and the two Legend of Xanadu titles. Edia has said these projects are part of a broader push beyond the company’s own catalog of former Telenet Japan properties, with additional classic games from other rights holders now being targeted for modern releases. Toshinden Collection and Psikyo Memories are among the other retro-focused projects Edia is showing at Tokyo Game Show 2026.

Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes occupies an important place in Falcom’s history because it established the Legend of Heroes name years before later subseries such as Trails became the franchise’s best-known international entries. Its sequel continued the setting with a new generation of characters, taking place after the events of the original game. Bringing both titles together therefore provides a way to revisit the earliest era of a franchise that has since grown substantially beyond its Dragon Slayer origins.

The announcement also arrives as other early Legend of Heroes games are being revived separately. NEOWIZ and Falcom are working on a new version of The Legend of Heroes III: The White Witch for PC and consoles, creating another route for older entries in the series to reach current hardware. The projects are separate, but together they reflect renewed attention around games that predate the modern Trails releases.

Edia’s collection is currently being demonstrated at Tokyo Game Show 2026, which runs from September 17 through September 21 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. Attendees can play Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes at Edia’s booth, giving the public an early look at how the PC Engine version is being handled on modern hardware. The company is also exhibiting several other retro collections during the event.

Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes I & II will launch worldwide in 2027 for PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. Edia has not yet announced pricing, a specific release date or a complete feature list, with further details expected as development continues.
