Since its debut in the 1990s, Capcom has consistently delivered new games, remakes, and upgraded editions for its most iconic gaming franchise, Resident Evil. Thanks to these efforts, most mainline Resident Evil games are available on modern platforms in some form.

For example, while the original Resident Evil hasn’t been re-released on current consoles, its acclaimed remake is accessible. Still, some Resident Evil titles lack native versions for the latest hardware—a gap that may soon be filled.

A new ESRB rating for Resident Evil 6 on Xbox Series X has sparked speculation that the controversial game could soon launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Other ESRB listings has now hinted at similar releases for the HD remaster of Resident Evil 4 and the Resident Evil Origins Collection, which includes HD remasters of the Resident Evil remake and Resident Evil Zero.

While these listings point to native versions, ESRB only mentions Xbox Series consoles, raising questions. Unless an exclusivity agreement exists, it’s unlikely Capcom would skip the PS5.

The following games are rumored to receive native versions:

    • Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster
    • Resident Evil HD Remake
    • Resident Evil 4 HD
    • Resident Evil 6

An Xbox Developer Direct event on January 23 is expected to feature news about a long-standing Japanese gaming franchise. Some fans speculate it could involve Resident Evil, potentially unveiling these native releases or a new game. However, a Square Enix title is seen as the more likely announcement. Fans will need to tune in at 10 a.m. PST on January 23 to find out.

For now, players don’t have to wait for native versions to enjoy these classics. Thanks to backward compatibility, all the titles mentioned are already playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, giving fans instant access to their Classic Resident Evil favorites.

Speaking of classics, Capcom is also working on Resident Evil Code Veronica and Zero remakes. This increases the likelihood of these native releases, especially as Capcom currently appears to be focusing on these projects.

On that note, what do you think of classic Resident Evil titles finally making their way to modern consoles, are you excited? Let us know in the comments section.
