Graceful Decay and Annapurna have revealed Uncanyon, a new puzzle-focused adventure coming to PlayStation 5 in 2027. The game was introduced during Sony’s September 3 State of Play and is the next project from the studio behind Maquette. Rather than revisiting Maquette’s recursive scale mechanic, Uncanyon is built around manipulating multiple alternate realities within the same physical space.

Players take control of Sonia, a newcomer to a forgotten world created where several “unparallel” universes have converged. She initially arrives looking for excitement, but gradually becomes tied to the fate of Uncanyon itself as she learns why the world needs her. Graceful Decay says the character’s story also draws on pressures such as family expectations and the obligations created by social media, giving the adventure a more personal layer alongside its larger world-saving premise.

Much of Uncanyon revolves around exploring temples, ruins and other structures designed to keep outsiders away. These locations contain mechanical traps, locks and environmental puzzles that require players to pay close attention to their surroundings rather than simply follow a linear path. Sonia collects tools and discoveries during the journey, gradually building a compact set of abilities that can be applied to increasingly complex puzzle spaces.

The central mechanic is based on objects called Reality Fragments. Devices powered by a substance known as fragmentstone allow players to blend alternate versions of the environment directly into the world around them. Activating one can move obstacles, remove hazards or create paths that did not exist in the current version of the space.

Graceful Decay is specifically avoiding the more familiar approach of having the player simply travel between separate universes. In Uncanyon, multiple realities can occupy and reshape the same location, and players control how much of each version is blended into the environment. The transition can even be frozen partway through, allowing Sonia to explore a hybrid space assembled from more than one reality at once.

That system forms the foundation of the game’s puzzle design. A doorway blocked in one reality may become accessible when another version of the room is introduced, but doing so could also create a new hazard elsewhere. Players therefore need to understand the different states of an area and determine not only which reality to use, but when and how far to blend it.

The concept follows some of the design philosophy Graceful Decay explored in Maquette. That game used recursive environments where changing the scale of an object in one version of the world affected its counterparts elsewhere. Uncanyon keeps the studio’s emphasis on spatial observation, but shifts the central problem-solving tool from scale manipulation to overlapping versions of reality.

The developers describe the ruins as closer to substantial dungeon puzzles than brief environmental interruptions. Their goal is to create spaces where the solution becomes clear only after players have uncovered additional rules governing the puzzle systems. That means Reality Fragments are intended to evolve throughout the game rather than function as a single repeated switch between two predetermined states.

The first reveal does not provide a detailed breakdown of every region, tool or later Reality Fragment ability. Graceful Decay says more information is planned about Sonia’s story, the different areas players will explore and how the reality-manipulation system develops as the adventure progresses. For now, the announcement is focused on establishing the game’s core idea and how it differentiates itself from Maquette.

Uncanyon’s reveal was part of Sony’s September showcase slate, following the earlier confirmation of a September State of Play presentation. The game joins Annapurna’s catalog of smaller, concept-driven projects while giving Graceful Decay another opportunity to build a full adventure around an unusual spatial puzzle mechanic.

Uncanyon is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 sometime in 2027. No exact release date or additional platforms have been announced yet. Its first showing establishes a puzzle-first structure centered on seamlessly blending realities, with Sonia’s journey through Uncanyon providing the narrative framework around that mechanic.
