Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced has received a new graphics overhaul called AuraV, introducing path-traced lighting, ray-traced reflections, volumetric clouds and improved environmental effects on PC. Developed by graphics engineer Kypos, the mod launched on October 5, 2026, with a free Lite edition and a more extensive Full edition available through Patreon.
The project has attracted renewed attention following a trailer shared on October 10 by GTA community account videotech, highlighting its visual changes to Los Santos, particularly its water simulation and lighting effects. AuraV is designed specifically for GTA V Enhanced and builds upon the game’s existing ray-tracing capabilities rather than replacing its rendering engine.
One of AuraV’s main features is its implementation of path-traced lighting and shadows. According to the developer’s official documentation, the system allows light to bounce between surfaces while enabling streetlights, illuminated signs and other light sources to produce ray-traced shadows. Reflections also use ray tracing, with NVIDIA DLSS Ray Reconstruction employed to improve their visual quality.

The changes extend beyond lighting. AuraV introduces a revised atmospheric system featuring volumetric clouds, redesigned skies and more detailed nighttime environments. Its weather improvements include updated rain effects, lightning, thunder and heat haze, while character skin receives revised lighting intended to respond more naturally to surrounding illumination.
Water simulation is another major part of the overhaul, particularly in the Full edition. Rather than relying entirely on the game’s existing ocean appearance, AuraV introduces waves shaped by wind conditions and revised water reflections. The developer has also implemented additional rain and vehicle effects, including water spray from wet roads, exhaust effects and tire smoke that reacts to environmental lighting.
These features are divided between two versions of the mod. AuraV Lite is available free without account registration and includes path-traced lighting and shadows, ray-traced reflections, the revised atmospheric system, skin lighting improvements and several weather effects. Players can also adjust the mod’s settings directly in the game through a menu opened with F10.
AuraV Full, currently offered in early access through Patreon, includes everything in the free edition alongside the more elaborate environmental and vehicle effects. These additions include wind-driven ocean waves, water reflections, rainbows, road spray, exhaust and tire smoke, and a weighted chase camera.
Kypos describes AuraV as a graphics overhaul developed specifically for NVIDIA RTX graphics cards. Its rendering features make use of NVIDIA’s ray-tracing technology and DLSS Ray Reconstruction, although the developer has not published comprehensive independent performance benchmarks establishing how the mod performs across different RTX GPUs.
The additional rendering effects could increase GPU workloads, particularly when multiple ray-tracing features are enabled simultaneously. However, without verified performance comparisons, the extent of any frame-rate reduction remains uncertain.
The mod is currently supported on GTA V Enhanced for PC rather than the original Legacy edition. Kypos has indicated that compatibility with GTA V Legacy and FiveM is planned, but those versions are not yet available.
Installation involves extracting the mod’s files into the GTA V Enhanced installation directory alongside the game’s executable. Players then launch Story Mode and use the F10 menu to access AuraV’s graphics settings. The mod also checks for updates when the game starts and displays available version information through its interface.
AuraV arrives as graphics modders continue experimenting with the ray-tracing capabilities introduced in GTA V Enhanced. The project is separate from Rockstar Games’ official development work, and its visual changes should not be confused with features planned for Grand Theft Auto VI.
Rockstar has separately discussed GTA VI's weather systems inspired by Florida, although AuraV’s environmental effects are independently developed modifications for GTA V.
For players interested in exploring GTA V Enhanced’s existing graphics capabilities, AuraV offers a free starting point with advanced lighting and atmospheric changes. The Patreon edition expands those improvements to water simulation and vehicle effects, while performance and compatibility will depend on the player’s hardware and installed game version.
