Final Fantasy Resonance has reached 42,885 concurrent players on Steam, surpassing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to become the most-played single-player Final Fantasy title on Valve’s platform. The milestone was recorded on October 25, 2026, just three days after the RPG’s release.
SteamDB’s player-tracking data confirms the new all-time peak of 42,885 simultaneous players. That exceeds Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s previous franchise benchmark of 40,564 concurrent players, recorded on January 26, 2025. Resonance has therefore overtaken Rebirth by 2,321 players, approximately 5.7%, during its opening weekend.
The achievement is particularly notable because Resonance takes a different approach from the franchise’s recent major releases. Developed by Square Enix and Lancarse, the game combines HD-2D pixel-art visuals with traditional turn-based combat, rather than the action-focused battle systems featured in Final Fantasy XVI and the Final Fantasy VII remake series.

Resonance launched on October 22, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Its simultaneous multiplatform release means Steam players received the game alongside console audiences, rather than waiting for a later PC port.
The RPG draws its story from the first narrative arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, originally released as a mobile game. Its combat system revolves around exploiting enemy weaknesses, breaking defenses and earning additional turns. Players can also summon Visions based on established Final Fantasy characters, including Cloud, Tidus and the Warrior of Light.
Additional content includes optional bosses, Colosseum battles and the Chamber of Arms. Square Enix also offers a free demo, with save progress transferable to the full game.
The new record applies specifically to single-player Final Fantasy releases on Steam. Final Fantasy XIV, the franchise’s massively multiplayer online RPG, has reached considerably higher concurrent player counts and is excluded from this comparison.
Steam concurrency measures the number of players running a game simultaneously, rather than total sales or unique players. The 42,885 figure therefore establishes a new Steam engagement milestone for Resonance but does not reveal how many copies Square Enix has sold across PC and consoles.
The result adds another milestone for Final Fantasy on PC as Square Enix continues expanding the franchise’s availability across platforms, including the recent addition of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade to Xbox Game Pass.
With its opening-weekend peak now above Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s previous record, Resonance has established the highest recorded simultaneous Steam player count for a single-player Final Fantasy game as of October 25, 2026.
