Amazon Prime Video has confirmed that Fallout Shelter: The Experiment, a reality competition series inspired by Bethesda’s Fallout franchise, will premiere on January 13, 2027. The ten-episode show places contestants inside Vault-Tec-inspired underground shelters, where they will compete in physical and psychological challenges for a $1 million grand prize.
Prime Video announced the premiere date on October 23, 2026, as part of its Fallout Day celebrations, accompanied by a short promotional teaser. The competition series was originally announced earlier in 2026, making the confirmed release schedule the latest development for the project.
Unlike Amazon’s scripted Fallout television adaptation, Fallout Shelter: The Experiment is an unscripted competition featuring ordinary participants attempting to prove their ability to survive in the franchise’s fictional post-apocalyptic setting.

Contestants will enter shelters modelled after Vault-Tec’s underground facilities, facing a combination of physical drills, psychological dilemmas and morally challenging situations. The competition will ultimately determine one winner, who will receive $1 million.
The setting draws on one of Fallout’s most recognizable elements. In Bethesda’s games, Vault-Tec constructed underground shelters supposedly designed to protect residents from nuclear devastation, although many secretly housed social and scientific experiments.
The show’s title also references Fallout Shelter, Bethesda’s vault-management spin-off in which players oversee an underground community, manage resources and maintain the wellbeing of its residents. The television competition adopts the franchise’s shelter setting rather than directly recreating the game’s management mechanics.
Prime Video has confirmed that the first four episodes will arrive on January 13, 2027. Three additional episodes will follow on January 20, with the final three releasing on January 27. All ten episodes will therefore become available over three consecutive Wednesdays.
The series is produced by Studio Lambert, the company behind Squid Game: The Challenge and The Traitors, in co-production with Kilter Films and in association with Bethesda Game Studios.
Fallout television executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are also involved in the new project. Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard and James Altman serve as executive producers, maintaining a direct connection between the competition series and the video game franchise.
Amazon’s scripted Fallout adaptation has already completed two seasons on Prime Video. Fallout Shelter: The Experiment represents a different approach to expanding the franchise beyond gaming, replacing the scripted adventures of its established characters with a competition built around Vault-Tec’s fictional experiments.
Prime Video has not yet publicly detailed the full competition rules, contestant lineup or individual challenges. The series will stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories beginning January 13, 2027.
