Auroch Digital, the British game developer behind Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 and Warhammer Survivors, has announced a restructuring that could affect approximately 25% of its workforce. The announcement comes just 12 days after Boltgun 2 launched on October 14, 2026.
In a statement published on October 26, the Bristol-based studio confirmed that it had begun a redundancy consultation process involving around a quarter of its positions. Although the announcement signals substantial potential job losses, the consultation remains ongoing, and the final number of redundancies has not been disclosed.
Auroch Digital attributed the restructuring to challenging market conditions across the video game industry. The developer acknowledged that its recent releases, including Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 and Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War!, had received an encouraging response from players but said their creative success had not protected the company from wider industry pressures.
Management explained that the studio had decided to restructure its operations to navigate the uncertainty facing game developers. It did not disclose specific financial figures, identify which departments would be affected or provide a timeline for completing the consultation.
Addressing employees, Auroch Digital expressed regret over the situation and emphasized that supporting staff through the consultation would be its immediate priority. The company also appealed to other developers and industry partners to consider hiring affected employees, highlighting their experience across independent shooters and AAA co-development projects.
Despite the planned workforce reductions, Auroch Digital explicitly confirmed that development and post-launch support for Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 and Warhammer Survivors would continue.
That assurance is particularly relevant for Boltgun 2 players. The retro-inspired first-person shooter launched on PC through Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 14, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version also announced for a later release. The studio has not indicated that the restructuring will change its existing plans for the game.
The announcement also arrives ahead of Warhammer Survivors' November 10 launch, which will introduce additional playable characters to its Warhammer-themed survival gameplay. Auroch Digital’s commitment to continued development indicates that the project remains active, although the company has not detailed how the restructuring might affect its longer-term production schedule.
Auroch Digital’s announcement follows another significant workforce development in the gaming industry, with Sucker Punch reportedly cutting 26 positions at the PlayStation studio behind Ghost of Yotei. The announcements concern separate companies, and neither establishes a direct connection between their staffing decisions.
For Auroch Digital, the immediate uncertainty concerns how many employees will ultimately leave the studio and which roles will be eliminated. The developer has confirmed its intention to continue supporting its Warhammer projects, but the final outcome of the redundancy consultation remains undetermined.
