Monomi Park has announced that Slime Rancher 2 will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in January 2027. The upcoming version was revealed during Nintendo’s October 28 Indie World Showcase, alongside a new trailer and confirmation of an exclusive in-game item for Switch 2 players.
The announcement brings the colorful first-person exploration and creature-collection game to Nintendo’s latest console. While the January 2027 release window has been confirmed, an exact launch date has not yet been announced.
Slime Rancher 2 follows Beatrix LeBeau as she travels to Rainbow Island, a mysterious location filled with unfamiliar slimes, natural resources, and remnants of ancient technology. Players explore the island, collect different slime species, gather resources, and expand their ranch through upgrades and new equipment.

The game builds on the original Slime Rancher’s combination of exploration, ranch management, and creature collection. Players can discover different environments, care for captured slimes, and develop their ranch while uncovering the island’s secrets.
The Nintendo Switch 2 release will also feature an exclusive in-game item. However, Monomi Park has not yet provided detailed information about the item’s appearance, functionality, or how players will obtain it.
Slime Rancher 2 originally entered early access on PC and Xbox Series X|S in September 2022 before reaching its full 1.0 release in September 2025. Its arrival on Nintendo Switch 2 will give Nintendo players access to the sequel following its releases on other platforms.
The announcement was part of Nintendo’s October 28 Indie World Showcase, which featured approximately 15 minutes of announcements and updates for independent games coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.
Other games highlighted during the presentation included Tenjutsu, an upcoming action roguelike scheduled for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
For Slime Rancher 2, pricing, an exact release date, and further details about the Switch 2-exclusive item remain unannounced.
