Bethesda Game Studios’ upcoming fantasy RPG The Elder Scrolls VI will reportedly be titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, with its story taking place in Hammerfell. The unannounced subtitle could be officially revealed as early as November 2026, potentially coinciding with the 15th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Bethesda and Microsoft have not confirmed the name, setting, or announcement plans.
The information comes from The Verge’s Tom Warren, who published the details in his October 29 Notepad newsletter, citing sources familiar with Bethesda’s plans. Warren reports that the Xbox-owned publisher is preparing to announce Sentinel as the game’s official subtitle, although the timing remains uncertain.
A November announcement would coincide with a significant milestone for the franchise. Skyrim originally launched on November 11, 2011, making November 2026 its 15th anniversary. However, Warren expects Bethesda to reveal only the game’s name rather than provide an extensive presentation, gameplay footage, or a release date.

The reported Hammerfell setting would take players to a province of Tamriel that has previously appeared in The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard and The Elder Scrolls Online. Hammerfell is closely associated with the Redguards and features a varied landscape that includes deserts, mountains, and coastal settlements.
The proposed Sentinel subtitle also has an established connection to the setting. Sentinel is a prominent city in Hammerfell within the Elder Scrolls universe, although Bethesda has not explained whether the reported name refers specifically to that location.
Beyond the setting, Warren’s reporting suggests that the sixth mainline installment will explore the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves. These mysterious ancient artifacts, which give the franchise its name, have appeared throughout the series, but their origins and deeper significance have remained largely unexplored.
According to the report, Sentinel will place greater emphasis on uncovering the secrets surrounding these artifacts. The information offers a potential indication of the game’s central narrative direction, though Bethesda has not released an official story synopsis or confirmed these details.
The report also provides additional context about the game’s development. Bethesda has reportedly demonstrated Sentinel gameplay internally over recent months, including a live presentation for Xbox CEO Asha Sharma in August.
Sharma publicly praised the scale of the project following her experience with the game, describing its story as even greater in scope. Her comments offered a limited indication of the project’s progress without revealing specific gameplay mechanics or narrative details.
Bethesda originally announced The Elder Scrolls VI with a short teaser during E3 2018. More than eight years later, the studio has released little official information about the RPG, leaving its setting, final title, gameplay systems, and release schedule largely undisclosed.
A confirmed subtitle would therefore represent one of the first substantial public updates about the game’s identity since its initial announcement. Nevertheless, the reported November reveal should not be interpreted as evidence that its release is approaching.
Microsoft has also been preparing its next generation of gaming hardware, including the Project Helix family of Xbox devices. However, no connection between that hardware initiative and The Elder Scrolls VI’s release plans has been announced.
For now, The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel remains a reported title rather than an officially confirmed one. Bethesda has not announced a November presentation, a release window, or a final list of supported platforms. Whether the reported name and Hammerfell setting are accurate will depend on confirmation from the developer or publisher.
