Update: James Gun has stated that there is no video game in development that is set in ‘The Batman’ universe.

Original Article: Batman is one of the most beloved superheroes in the gaming world, with several highly successful games, particularly in the Arkham series. Despite the character’s current challenges, the future looks promising for Batman.

This is because a new video game set in the world of DC’s The Batman film franchise is reportedly in development.

Importance: Recently, Batman has had a challenging few years in the gaming industry, as recent titles featuring the character haven’t lived up to expectations, leaving fans eager for a game that truly does justice to the Dark Knight.

According to a report from Puck News, this game is based on the 2022 Matt Reeves-directed film The Batman, which starred Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight.

The report discussed the possible future of Warner Bros. Discovery and how its assets might be divided or sold. Despite ongoing rumors of a potential breakup, Warner Bros. has continued to invest in its gaming division, including acquiring a new studio earlier this year.

According to Puck’s report, Warner Bros. Discovery views its gaming ventures as strategic, especially as the company’s various divisions are increasingly collaborating on projects like the upcoming Penguin HBO show and a game, both connected to the 2022 The Batman movie.

The report provided no additional details about the game set in The Batman universe, leaving fans with little to go on. However, the mere possibility of a new Batman game is likely to excite fans, who have been waiting for a mainline Batman title after years of spinoffs and other unexpected projects.

Although Robert Pattinson’s Batman made an appearance in Batman: Arkham Knight late last year, that’s the only tie-in to the gaming world that this new version of the character has seen.

In related news, Batman: Arkham Shadow, a VR game exclusive to Meta Quest 3, was also announced in May 2024. This title is the second VR game in the Arkham series, following Batman: Arkham VR, which was released for the original PlayStation VR headset. The VR title, set for release in October, was recently showcased during Gamescom Opening Night Live.

As for the broader Batman franchise, a sequel to The Batman is currently in development, and the Penguin HBO series is expected to debut next month. With all these developments, Batman fans have plenty to look forward to, both in film and gaming.
