Konami has confirmed that Rev. NOiR will launch for PlayStation 5 in 2027, providing the first release window for its new RPG. A second trailer shown during Sony’s September 3 State of Play offered a much more substantial look at the game, including protagonist Asch, companion Finé and its action-focused combat. Rev. NOiR was originally announced in February 2026 without a release window.
The story takes place in a world threatened by Lightfall, a catastrophic phenomenon in which falling light kills anything it touches. Asch is an isolated young man suffering from amnesia when he is rescued by Finé, a girl whose importance appears to extend beyond simply accompanying him. The pair eventually set out together in an attempt to stop Lightfall and prevent the destruction surrounding them.
Konami describes the game as a story about human will and the characters’ attempt to resist a cruel fate. The new footage expands considerably on the premise established by February’s teaser, showing Asch and Finé travelling through different environments while the consequences of Lightfall continue to shape the world around them. Konami is still withholding several major story details, including exactly why Finé is connected to the crisis and what caused the phenomenon in the first place.

Rev. NOiR is being developed as a new RPG property rather than an extension of one of Konami’s established franchises. ILCA is involved in development, while Nobuki Kadoi serves as producer. Konami has previously described the project as a globally targeted console RPG and one of the company’s major new properties alongside its continuing work on established series.
Gameplay footage shown during State of Play gives the clearest indication yet of how battles will work. Rather than presenting a purely menu-driven combat system, Rev. NOiR features real-time action with characters moving freely around encounters, chaining attacks and using visually elaborate abilities. The footage shows Asch fighting alongside other party members against both groups of enemies and much larger opponents.
Party-based progression remains an important part of the design despite the action-heavy combat. Konami has said the game is intended to preserve familiar elements associated with traditional Japanese RPGs, including forming a party, strengthening characters over the course of the journey and building emotional relationships between the cast. The result appears to combine those conventional RPG foundations with a more active combat system.
The environments shown so far range from large cities and settlements to forests, ruins and open landscapes affected by Lightfall. The phenomenon itself is not simply background decoration, with the trailers repeatedly presenting it as the central danger facing the world and its inhabitants. Some scenes show characters attempting to survive or navigate areas as the deadly light descends around them.
Asch’s missing memories also remain a central mystery. The original reveal suggested his personal history could be closely connected to the larger catastrophe, while the newest trailer places greater emphasis on his relationship with Finé and the people who join their journey. Konami has not yet explained whether player decisions will alter the story or how much freedom players will have when exploring the world.
Rev. NOiR represents a relatively unusual project for modern Konami: a completely new large-scale RPG property rather than a revival, remake or sequel tied to one of its existing brands. The company has recently invested heavily in returning series such as Metal Gear, Silent Hill and Castlevania, making a new internally backed RPG notable within its broader development slate.
The game was first revealed during February’s State of Play, when Konami introduced its anime-influenced visual style, Lightfall premise and brief glimpses of combat. At that stage, only a PlayStation 5 version had been announced and no launch window was provided. September’s presentation now moves the project closer to release with a 2027 target and substantially more gameplay.
Rev. NOiR is currently announced for PlayStation 5 in 2027. Konami has not provided a specific release date or confirmed versions for PC, Xbox or Nintendo platforms, so PS5 remains the only officially announced platform for now.
