Bethesda has officially revealed that its long-awaited fantasy RPG is titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The announcement arrived on November 3, 2026, through Xbox Wire and a new name-reveal video celebrating Bethesda Game Studios’ 40th anniversary, confirming the subtitle more than eight years after the game’s initial announcement.
The official Xbox Wire announcement features the game’s Sentinel logo, establishing the name for the first time through Bethesda’s publishing channels. The reveal follows years of limited information about the next mainline Elder Scrolls installment, which was originally announced with a brief teaser during Bethesda’s E3 2018 presentation.
The confirmation also follows earlier reports identifying Sentinel as the game's subtitle and Hammerfell as its potential setting. The October 29 report originated with The Verge’s Tom Warren, who cited sources familiar with Bethesda’s plans. Warren also suggested that an official name announcement could arrive in November, around the 15th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Although the Sentinel subtitle is now confirmed, the reported Hammerfell setting remains separate from Bethesda’s official announcement. Hammerfell is an established province in the Elder Scrolls universe, and Sentinel is the name of a city associated with the region. However, the title alone does not establish the game’s geographical setting or confirm the previously reported story details involving the mysterious Elder Scrolls artifacts.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma had previously discussed seeing a live playthrough of the upcoming RPG in August 2026. Her public comments praised the game’s scale and story while concealing its subtitle behind eight asterisks, prompting speculation that the hidden name was Sentinel.
The November 3 announcement establishes the game’s official identity but does not provide a confirmed release date, launch window or complete platform lineup. Bethesda has also not announced new gameplay systems or detailed the game’s narrative through the name reveal.
The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel remains in development at Bethesda Game Studios. Its newly confirmed title represents the first major naming update since the original 2018 teaser, although players will still need to await further announcements for gameplay footage, release timing and platform availability.
