The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel is still more than two years away from release, according to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier. The assessment, shared on November 3, 2026, suggests Bethesda Game Studios’ long-awaited RPG will not launch before November 2028, despite the developer finally revealing its official title.
Schreier made the statement in a post on Bluesky shortly after Bethesda’s official announcement of The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. While the name reveal marks a significant development for the franchise, Schreier cautioned that players should not interpret the announcement as an indication that the game is approaching release.
“I think a lot of people forget that The Elder Scrolls VI was only announced in 2018 (along with Starfield) to soften the blow of Fallout 76,” Schreier wrote.

He explained that Bethesda’s original announcement was intended to reassure players that the studio remained committed to developing single-player games despite its move into multiplayer with Fallout 76.
Schreier concluded his November 3 post with a direct assessment of the sequel’s release timeline: “Sorry to say this game is still more than 2 years away!”
The statement places the game’s potential release beyond early November 2028 if the assessment proves accurate. However, Bethesda has not announced an official release window, and Schreier’s comments should not be treated as confirmation of a specific launch year.
The November statement also reinforces Schreier’s earlier assessment from July 2026. During a Bloomberg Live Q&A, he indicated that The Elder Scrolls VI was still approximately two to three years away at minimum. His latest comments suggest that the anticipated development timeline has not materially shortened in the intervening months.
Bethesda originally announced The Elder Scrolls VI during its E3 2018 presentation, alongside Starfield. The brief teaser confirmed that another mainline Elder Scrolls game was in development but offered little information about its gameplay, setting, or release plans.
More than eight years later, Bethesda officially revealed the Sentinel subtitle during its November 3 celebration of Bethesda Game Studios’ 40th anniversary. The announcement followed reports connecting the Sentinel name to Hammerfell, a province within the Elder Scrolls universe.
Although the announcement establishes the game’s identity, it does not provide a release date. Bethesda has also indicated that development continues and that additional information will take time to share.
In a July 2026 studio update, Bethesda identified The Elder Scrolls VI as its primary development focus, with most of its team working on the RPG. The developer stated that the game was progressing according to its internal plans and was already being played regularly during development.
Those statements confirm substantial ongoing development but do not establish how close the project is to completion.
For players awaiting the next mainline Elder Scrolls installment, Schreier’s latest assessment provides a clearer indication of the likely waiting period. Bethesda’s official title reveal is a milestone, but a launch before late 2028 appears unlikely based on the journalist’s current information.
Bethesda has yet to announce a specific release date or window for The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
