Capcom may finally be giving Resident Evil: Code Veronica the spotlight fans have been demanding for years. According to well-known industry insider Dusk Golem, the long-rumored remake of the 2000 survival horror classic is shaping up to be a big-budget production on par with Capcom’s recent reimaginings of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4.
This new claim comes after months of speculation and appears to mark a shift in how the project is being positioned.
While Dusk Golem had previously suggested that upcoming remakes might not reach the ambitious scale of Resident Evil 4, his latest update indicates that Code Veronica is being treated as a mainline entry rather than a side project.
The remake is said to be in development under the same team responsible for the critically acclaimed RE2 and RE4 remakes. Both titles were praised for their faithful yet modernized approach, setting a high standard for what fans now expect from Capcom’s reimaginings. If true, Code Veronica could receive the same treatment, blending atmospheric horror with modern gameplay refinements.
Back in 2024, Dusk Golem downplayed the likelihood of Code Veronica receiving a lavish rework, emphasizing that Capcom viewed Resident Evil 4 as the “crown jewel” of its remake lineup. His new remarks, however, suggest that Capcom may have reconsidered its stance, likely due to sustained fan demand and the growing popularity of remake projects across the industry.
Capcom’s commitment to reviving Code Veronica in this manner also signals a broader strategy: extending the life of its survival horror franchise by alternating between new mainline releases and prestige remakes.
Although Capcom has yet to officially confirm the project, rumors place Code Veronica alongside a remake of Resident Evil Zero. Both titles are reportedly in development, though Zero may arrive first. Current whispers suggest a potential release window between 2027 and 2028, with a reveal possibly timed for the franchise’s 30th anniversary in 2026.

In the meantime, Capcom is preparing to launch Resident Evil 9: Requiem in February 2026. With that release acting as a centerpiece for the anniversary, it’s unlikely the publisher will stack multiple flagship titles in the same year. Instead, Code Veronica could serve as a major follow-up once the dust settles around the new mainline entry.
Interestingly, fans have already spotted updated models of Claire Redfield and Steve Burnside—two central characters from Code Veronica—appearing in Capcom’s recent mobile game Resident Evil: Survival Unit. While not official confirmation, these inclusions hint that the company may already be preparing assets for the remake.
For years, Code Veronica has occupied an unusual spot in the franchise. Despite being a canonical entry that introduced key characters and plotlines, it never received the same level of recognition as its numbered counterparts.
A modernized remake would not only reintroduce the story of Claire Redfield and the Ashford family to a new generation but also fill a long-standing gap in Capcom’s acclaimed remake lineup.
If Dusk Golem’s reports prove accurate, Resident Evil: Code Veronica may finally receive the high-budget treatment fans have been asking for, bringing Rockfort Island back to life in a way that could rival Capcom’s most celebrated remakes.
