Akihabara, Tokyo’s hub of pop culture and subcultures, has long been the backdrop of countless stories of mystery, creativity, and innovation. From bustling maid cafes to underground idols and game streamers, the district embodies an energy that continues to inspire new forms of entertainment.

Now, the same vibrant setting is once again at the center of a project that promises to blur the lines between drama and gaming like never before.

IzanagiGames, in collaboration with Nippon TV and AX-ON, has officially revealed AKIBA LOST on PS5, Switch 2, and PC, with a release planned for 2026. Described as a large-scale live-action suspense game, the title aims to merge cinematic storytelling with interactive gameplay.

Importance: The announcement of AKIBA LOST on PS5, Switch 2, and PC signals a major shift in gaming, blending live-action storytelling with interactive gameplay and setting a new standard for narrative-driven experiences.

A Unique Blend Of Game And Film

Unlike traditional visual novels or FMV titles, AKIBA LOST on PS5, Switch 2, and PC is being developed as a full-scale feature-length game, combining over 20 hours of filmed footage with more than 100,000 still images to create a truly immersive narrative.

Players will step into the role of Daiki Shinjo, a once-acclaimed game creator, who becomes entangled in a mystery echoing a chilling case from thirteen years prior known as “Akiba’s Spirited Away,” when six girls vanished without a trace.

    Explore Akihabara’s Subcultures

Using a “zapping system,” players can switch perspectives between Shinjo and six unique female characters, each tied to Akihabara’s vibrant subcultures, from a maid cafe worker and an underground idol to a shrine maiden and a game streamer.

The story escalates after Shinjo’s sister disappears following a threatening call, forcing players to make critical choices that determine how the mystery unfolds and ultimately ends.

AKIBA LOST will be showcased at Tokyo Game Show 2025 ahead of its 2026 release

With support for English, Japanese, and Chinese languages, and a showcase set for Tokyo Game Show 2025, the project brings together television veterans, film producers, and actor Hiromitsu Kitayama in a bold attempt to redefine live-action gaming.
