The PSN requirement has become one of the most criticized barriers in the gaming industry, preventing many players in certain countries from accessing PlayStation exclusives due to the unavailability of PSN in their region.

God of War Ragnarok, the latest PlayStation title ported to PC, is facing this same issue. While some players are generally frustrated with the PSN requirement, others are disappointed that they can’t play the game because of regional restrictions.

A modder, however, found a solution to bypass the PSN requirement for God of War Ragnarok. But the mod was quickly removed, leading to speculation about why it vanished from modding platforms.

NexusMods has now clarified the situation, sharing a statement from the modder, iArtoriasUA, who explained that it was their personal decision to take down the mod due to the increased attention it received. The modder thought it best to remove it to avoid potential legal action from Sony.

Importance: Consumer satisfaction is a key goal for gaming giants like PlayStation, and implementing a practice like the mandatory PSN requirement, which prevents millions from playing their titles, does not reflect well on the company.

The modder acknowledged that the project never modified any memory related to Sony products but chose to take it down to be on the safe side, which is understandable given the unpredictability when dealing with large companies. A prime example of strict IP enforcement is Nintendo’s.

Currently, there’s no indication that Sony has taken legal action against the modder. It seems the mod was removed as a precautionary measure to avoid future issues.

Earlier this year, Sony implemented the PSN login requirement for Helldivers 2, resulting in the game being delisted in 177 countries where PlayStation Network wasn’t available. This move sparked significant backlash, with over 100,000 negative reviews on Steam within 48 hours.

In response to the criticism, PlayStation reversed the decision, removing the PSN requirement and acknowledging they were still figuring out the best approach for PC players.

We hope that Sony can develop a solution to this issue, as many gamers worldwide are experiencing major limitations in accessing these titles.
