Rebel Wolves is preparing the first major post-launch update for The Blood of Dawnwalker, with the patch currently targeted for early October. Game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz outlined the update in an interview with Eurogamer, confirming a new easier difficulty option alongside changes to combat targeting, camera behavior and escaping from fights. An exact release date has not yet been announced.
The most significant accessibility change is the addition of a fifth difficulty setting below the game’s current Story mode. The new option will inherit the Story name and is intended for players who primarily want to experience the narrative without facing as much resistance from combat. The existing Story setting will move one step higher in the difficulty ladder and receive a new name, although Rebel Wolves has not finalized that label yet.
Combat targeting is also being adjusted in response to player feedback. The current system can automatically switch Coen’s target after stunning an enemy, a behavior that was originally designed to discourage players from immediately breaking the stun effect. Tomaszkiewicz acknowledged that some players found the behavior frustrating, and the upcoming patch is intended to make target selection feel less disruptive during combat.

The studio is also changing how players disengage from encounters. Running away from combat should become less awkward, with adjustments designed to make it easier to break target lock and leave a fight without becoming stuck in the existing movement behavior. Rebel Wolves is additionally continuing performance optimization work alongside these gameplay changes.
The Blood of Dawnwalker launched on September 3 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Since release, Rebel Wolves has issued several hotfixes focused on quest blockers, controls and performance issues, but the October update is being positioned as a broader gameplay-focused patch rather than another small corrective release. Tomaszkiewicz described it as a substantial update with additional improvements beyond the changes already discussed publicly.
The game’s combat is built around directional attacks, parrying and positioning, which means even small targeting changes can have a noticeable effect on how fights flow. The new Story difficulty is therefore aimed at players who are more interested in Coen’s story and exploration than mastering those systems. Higher settings including Fair, Challenging and Duelist will remain available for players who want a more demanding combat experience.
Rebel Wolves is also considering additional post-launch features, although they are not confirmed for the October patch. Tomaszkiewicz said the studio is exploring a New Game Plus mode and has discussed adding more enemy variety, but neither feature currently has a release window. Those additions should therefore be treated separately from the changes already planned for the upcoming update.
The Blood of Dawnwalker has drawn attention both for its vampire-focused RPG systems and for its relatively compact production compared with many large open-world releases. The project was reportedly developed on a budget of around $40 million, with Rebel Wolves positioning the game as a focused role-playing experience rather than an enormous traditional AAA production. Continued post-launch support now appears to be shifting from urgent fixes toward broader adjustments based on player feedback.
Rebel Wolves has not yet published the complete patch notes, so further details on balancing, performance improvements and the final name of the renamed difficulty remain unknown. The studio is currently aiming to release the update near the beginning of October, with the final changelog expected closer to deployment.
