Battlestate Games, the developer behind Escape from Tarkov, has officially launched a publishing division aimed at bringing other studios’ games to market. The company announced the expansion during the FPS Games Show on September 3 before confirming the move through its own social channels. Battlestate is now inviting developers to approach the company with projects for potential publishing support.

The new operation is being positioned around the same design philosophy that helped define Escape from Tarkov. Battlestate said Tarkov was built around ideas that were considered too demanding, slow, punishing or unconventional by others, and it now wants to support developers attempting similarly uncompromising projects. The company is specifically looking for hardcore games that may make more traditional publishers hesitant.

That positioning gives the publishing initiative a relatively clear identity from the outset. Battlestate is not presenting itself as a publisher seeking projects with the broadest possible audience, but as a potential home for games whose difficulty, systems or unusual design choices could make conventional publishing deals harder to secure. Developers of different sizes are being invited to make contact, although Battlestate has not yet announced the first game it will publish.

The move expands Battlestate beyond developing and operating its own releases. Escape from Tarkov remains the studio’s defining project, having spent years establishing itself as one of the most influential extraction shooters before reaching its full 1.0 release. Its Steam launch later encountered significant technical and account-related problems that contributed to mostly negative early Steam reviews, but the game remains the foundation of Battlestate’s reputation for demanding, systems-heavy design.

Battlestate has also been expanding the broader Tarkov lineup. Earlier in 2026, the developer confirmed that multiple additional projects connected to the Escape from Tarkov universe were in development, including a mobile title, a single-player project and Escape from Tarkov: Guncyclopedia. The publishing division represents a different form of growth because it allows Battlestate to work with games created outside its own internal development pipeline.

Studio head Nikita Buyanov had indicated earlier this year that Battlestate was considering moving into publishing, according to Insider Gaming. The September announcement turns those plans into an active operation, with developers now able to submit projects for consideration. Battlestate has not disclosed how many titles it intends to sign, the size of its publishing budget or what specific development, marketing and distribution services it will provide.

No publishing partners or debut projects have been named yet. That means the immediate significance of the announcement lies more in Battlestate’s change in business direction than in any individual game. The company is moving from primarily developing and operating its own titles toward potentially financing, supporting or distributing projects created by independent teams, depending on the agreements it eventually signs.

The emphasis on hardcore games could also help distinguish Battlestate from larger publishers competing for broadly accessible releases. Escape from Tarkov built much of its audience around detailed weapon systems, severe consequences for failure and limited concessions to new players, characteristics that helped the game stand apart even as the extraction-shooter market expanded. Battlestate appears to believe that experience can translate into identifying other projects with similarly narrow but committed audiences.

For developers, the announcement introduces another potential publishing route for games that might struggle to fit conventional commercial expectations. Battlestate’s own statement suggests unusual or deliberately difficult design will not automatically be treated as something that needs to be softened for a larger market. Whether that philosophy extends to development funding, creative control, marketing commitments or other practical publishing terms remains unknown.

Battlestate Games Publishing is now actively seeking projects, but the company has not announced when its first third-party title will be revealed. Until that happens, the division remains an early-stage expansion built around Battlestate’s experience with Escape from Tarkov and its stated interest in supporting games that other publishers may consider too risky or unconventional.
