Unicorn Overlord director Takafumi Noma is leading a new fantasy project called IGNISPHERE, with action RPG DAWNGAZER announced as its first game. Monochro and Good Smile Company say DAWNGAZER is targeting a 2028 release for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam. The companies revealed the project on September 25 alongside a teaser introducing the broader IGNISPHERE setting.
DAWNGAZER is being developed by IGNISPHERE Studio, a development team led by Noma, while Good Smile Company will handle publishing and promotion. Noma is best known as the director of Atlus and Vanillaware’s Unicorn Overlord, where he was also involved across areas including scenario and character design. His earlier credits include programming and support work across a range of Japanese games before he moved into a broader creative leadership role.
IGNISPHERE is intended to be larger than a single video game. Monochro and Good Smile describe it as both a new fantasy world and the name of the development studio working under Noma’s direction, with multiple countries and races forming the foundation of the setting. The companies plan to begin with games before expanding the IP into additional forms of media.

DAWNGAZER is currently described as an action RPG, although specific combat systems, playable characters and story details have not yet been fully revealed. The first teaser focuses primarily on establishing the atmosphere and world rather than presenting a lengthy gameplay demonstration. With a 2028 target, the project remains relatively early in development and the companies have left substantial room for further reveals over the next two years.
Good Smile Company is also positioning itself as more than a conventional game publisher for the project. The company says it will work with Monochro on broader IGNISPHERE development, including merchandise such as figures. That approach fits the stated goal of building IGNISPHERE into a larger entertainment property rather than treating DAWNGAZER as a standalone release.
A separate expansion into publishing is already planned through KADOKAWA. Multiple light novel projects set in the IGNISPHERE universe are being developed through Fujimi Fantasia Bunko, although titles and release schedules have not yet been announced. The companies have not said whether those books will directly adapt DAWNGAZER’s story or explore other parts of the setting.
Music for DAWNGAZER is being composed by Yoshimi Kudo, whose previous work includes Unicorn Overlord and Elden Ring. The teaser music is also arranged and composed by Kudo, with vocals and singer coordination handled by KOCHO. Additional vocal performances come from KOCHO, SAK. and Maki Takimoto, while Wataru Mukai performs cello on the teaser track.
The project’s announced language support currently includes Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. That, combined with a simultaneous platform lineup spanning PS5, Switch 2 and Steam, suggests Good Smile Company is planning DAWNGAZER as an international release rather than a Japan-first project. No Xbox Series X|S version has been announced.
DAWNGAZER is scheduled for release in 2028 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam. Monochro and Good Smile Company have not announced a more specific launch window or shown enough of the game to establish the final combat structure or scope. For now, the announcement establishes Noma’s next major project and the beginning of a broader original fantasy IP designed to expand beyond games.
