Mob Entertainment has confirmed that Escape From Playtime will enter Steam Early Access on October 21, 2026. The release date was announced during the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct alongside a new trailer, giving the Poppy Playtime co-op spin-off its first firm launch date. The Steam page has also been updated to reflect the October release.
Escape From Playtime is a one-to-four-player survival horror game set inside the abandoned Playtime Co. factory. Players take control of the Smiling Critters, the toy characters introduced in Poppy Playtime: Chapter 3, as they explore classrooms, warehouses, testing laboratories and the dark corridors connecting them. The game can be played solo or with up to three other players online.
Each run sends players into a dynamically changing section of the factory to collect and transport resources for a mysterious figure known only as the Voice. Those materials are supposedly being used to build a home for toys that prove their loyalty and usefulness, although Mob Entertainment is deliberately keeping the Voice’s wider motives unclear. Rejected Playtime Co. creations patrol the facility throughout those runs, forcing players to balance scavenging against the risk of staying in dangerous areas for too long.

The factory layout is designed to change between runs, with procedurally generated environments creating different routes and situations. Players can search for tools, solve puzzles, uncover clues, hide from enemies and use alternate pathways to escape danger. Mob Entertainment says proximity voice chat will also play into the horror, since communication can help teams coordinate but may also create additional risk if players draw unwanted attention.
Another feature is Mini Mode, which takes advantage of the Smiling Critters’ smaller size. Players will be able to crawl, climb and jump through areas of Playtime Co. from a much lower perspective than in the main Poppy Playtime games. The spin-off is intended to revisit recognizable locations while opening routes and spaces that would not normally be accessible to the franchise’s human protagonists.
Mob Entertainment is launching the game through Early Access so it can expand the experience in response to community feedback. The initial version is planned to include all eight members of the Smiling Critters roster, a starter zone and the game’s core enemy lineup. Future updates are expected to introduce additional areas, playable Critters, features and refinements as development continues.
The studio has not announced a date for the full 1.0 release. Steam currently lists Escape From Playtime as an Early Access title, with Mob Entertainment stating that the game will continue evolving after launch rather than arriving as a finished package. The developer also plans to include an in-game reporting tool for bugs and other issues encountered during Early Access.
Escape From Playtime was first formally unveiled in August, when Mob Entertainment described it as a multiplayer extension of the Poppy Playtime universe rather than another numbered chapter. Game director Brandon James said at the time that the studio wanted to explore more of the enormous Playtime Co. facility while building a multiplayer experience shaped alongside its community.
The October 21 release date now puts that concept less than a month away from public availability. Rather than reproducing the structure of the main Poppy Playtime games, Escape From Playtime is built around repeatable co-op runs, changing environments and resource collection while retaining the franchise’s abandoned-factory setting and mascot-horror creatures.
