In a recent interview with Daily Star, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, revealed that the game will not be receiving major story DLC, despite fan requests.

Hamaguchi explained that, while he understands the desire for additional content, the development team’s primary focus is on completing the third and final part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy.

He acknowledged that fans have expressed interest in similar post-launch content to what was offered in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade—specifically, the Episode Intermission DLC. However, Hamaguchi emphasized that the team is prioritizing the release of Part 3, as he believes this is what fans are truly eager to see.

Importance: While Square Enix skipping a DLC for Final Fantasy 7 may disappoint many fans worldwide, it is certainly understandable given that the developer is fully focused on the third and final part of the trilogy.

“We hear the requests from fans, and I completely understand where they’re coming from. But from our perspective, I think what they really want is not necessarily extra episodes or DLC. What they want most is the third part of the series, and they want it as soon as possible.”

As a result, the team has decided to forgo any major DLC expansions for Rebirth to ensure that all development resources are directed toward delivering the final chapter of the saga.

Hamaguchi reiterated that getting Part 3 out quickly and with the highest quality is the primary focus, explaining that this decision is made with the fans’ best interests in mind.

Earlier this year, Hamaguchi expressed his confidence that Part 3 will be one of the greatest video games ever made, so it’s clear the team is aiming to make the conclusion of the trilogy a truly unforgettable experience.

While some may be disappointed by the lack of additional story content, it seems that the strategy is to build anticipation for the final installment and ensure the trilogy’s conclusion is as impactful as possible.
