Fortnite has made Midas’ Masterpiece obtainable through Loot Rift Anomalies again, restoring another route to one of Chapter 7 Season 4’s most powerful weapons. Dataminer FireMonkey reported the live change on September 8, saying the golden pistol had been unvaulted from the anomaly loot pool. The change affects how players can find the weapon rather than introducing Midas’ Masterpiece itself, which has already appeared during Override.
Epic introduced Midas’ Masterpiece with Chapter 7 Season 4: Override as a special single-fire pistol with extremely limited ammunition. Its defining feature is its headshot damage, which is powerful enough to eliminate an opponent with a single hit. Epic’s launch notes deliberately described it as something only a lucky player might obtain when it spawns, making scarcity an important part of balancing the weapon.
At the beginning of the season, Midas’ Masterpiece was associated with special Rift-based encounters, but its availability has shifted through hotfixes since Override launched. Golden Rift access was temporarily removed earlier in the season, with the weapon subsequently becoming available through Dr. Eggman. The September 8 change means Loot Rift Anomalies can now provide another opportunity to obtain it, although FireMonkey’s report does not indicate that its other current acquisition methods have been removed.
Rift Anomalies are dynamic events that can alter a Battle Royale match as Storm phases progress. Epic originally introduced the system in Chapter 7, with different anomalies capable of spawning valuable loot, introducing temporary effects or otherwise changing the conditions of a match. Loot-focused variants make particularly rare equipment available without placing those weapons into ordinary floor-loot or chest pools.
That makes the return of Midas’ Masterpiece to the anomaly pool significant despite the relatively small scope of the hotfix. Players do not simply land at a fixed location and collect the pistol every match; they still need the appropriate event to occur and then compete for its loot. Its limited ammunition also means obtaining it does not provide an unlimited supply of one-shot headshots for the rest of the match.
Override has leaned heavily on rotating and conditional loot systems rather than keeping every powerful item permanently available through standard containers. Sprite Dust-powered Loot Hacks can alter chest rewards, Match Overrides can change server-wide rules and special events periodically increase access to unusual equipment. Recent Cheat Master Power Hours similarly boosted access to rare seasonal items and Sprite-related rewards for limited windows.
Midas’ Masterpiece has been one of the headline weapons of Override since Epic revealed the season in August. It launched alongside crossover equipment including Mega Man’s Mega Buster, Sonic’s Power Sneakers and the Tetris Rift, while the wider weapon pool mixed those new additions with returning Fortnite guns. Its extreme headshot lethality distinguishes it from the conventional pistols and rifles available throughout a match.
The September 8 adjustment also illustrates how quickly Fortnite’s live loot pool can change without requiring a major numbered update. Epic frequently uses server-side hotfixes to enable, disable or redistribute weapons, meaning acquisition guides can become outdated even when the underlying item remains unchanged. In this case, the important change is specifically the return of Midas’ Masterpiece to Loot Rift Anomalies rather than a balance adjustment to the pistol itself.
Epic has not published separate patch notes detailing the September 8 change or announced how long the restored anomaly availability will remain active. Players should therefore expect the acquisition method to remain subject to further hotfixes as Override progresses. For now, Loot Rift Anomalies once again offer a chance to secure Midas’ Masterpiece and its one-headshot potential during Battle Royale matches.
