Fortnite Reload’s 42.30 update brings back the Steady Storm match modifier for a limited weekend run and confirms the next major season for the mode. Epic’s Reload update notes say Steady Storm will remain active until October 5 at 7 a.m. ET, while Nitemare Island: Kado’s Curse will launch on October 8 as part of Fortnitemares 2026. The announcement was published through Fortnite’s official community channels, confirming the core details shared by dataminer FireMonkey.
Steady Storm is returning as Reload’s current Springfield season winds down. The modifier removes the waiting periods between storm-circle phases, keeping the storm moving at a consistent pace until the end of the match. That makes matches more continuously pressured than standard Reload games, where players normally have pauses between successive storm phases, and gives the limited-time modifier a distinct ruleset without changing the mode’s basic structure.
The bigger change is scheduled for October 8, when Reload moves into Nitemare Island: Kado’s Curse. Epic describes the update as a new season launch rather than a temporary modifier, with new gameplay, weapons and additional content planned alongside new cosmetic rewards for Ranked and Map Mastery. The launch will also bring the Halloween theme directly into Reload as Fortnitemares expands beyond the main Battle Royale experience.
The timing follows a broader Fortnitemares rollout across Fortnite. Epic’s official event announcement confirms that an updated Nitemare Island will arrive in Reload on October 8, alongside the existing Stranger Things and Squid Grounds maps. The main Fortnitemares event is already live in Battle Royale, with new weapons, cursed Overrides and horror-themed encounters, making the Reload season part of a wider October content cycle rather than an isolated map update.
Players currently working through Reload’s Springfield season have a short window to finish its progression before the transition. Epic specifically advises players to complete their Map Mastery Quests and Ranked Rewards before the new season arrives, giving the final days of the current season a defined cutoff. The return of Steady Storm also gives players a temporary way to experience a faster, continuously moving storm while they finish those objectives.
The move to Nitemare Island follows earlier changes to Reload’s map lineup. Recent rotations have brought multiple environments into the mode rather than keeping players on a single map, including natural Unranked map rotation changes involving Oasis, Surf City Remix and Springfield. The upcoming Nitemare Island season adds another major environment to that evolving Reload lineup, while also tying the mode directly into this year’s Halloween event.
The Halloween transition had also been preceded by reports of a possible new Reload map. Earlier file discoveries natural pointed to a Halloween-themed Reload map, although the current announcement provides the first official confirmation of the Nitemare Island launch and its October 8 timing. Epic has now confirmed the name, seasonal role and broad content scope without detailing every weapon or gameplay feature that will arrive with Kado’s Curse.
For now, the immediate change is Steady Storm, which is scheduled to remain active through October 5. Nitemare Island: Kado’s Curse then takes over on October 8 with new progression rewards, gameplay and weapons, giving Fortnite Reload a substantial seasonal refresh as Fortnitemares continues across the game.
