Fortnite Reload’s Unranked mode is rotating maps again, ending the recent period in which regular matches were effectively locked to Springfield. Fortnite dataminer FireMonkey reported on September 24 that both Ranked and Unranked Reload now feature Oasis, Surf City and Springfield. Players entering Unranked matches have independently reported seeing the same three-map rotation live, providing additional confirmation that the change is active rather than merely present in unreleased game data.
The change is notable because Epic Games had deliberately separated the map setup for Ranked and Unranked Reload in its September 17 v42.20 update. Official Reload patch notes said Springfield would remain in Unranked while Ranked rotated between Oasis, Springfield and Mini-Venture. That meant players who wanted map variety had to move into Ranked, while standard Reload continued using Springfield. The new setup restores multiple maps to the non-ranked playlist only one week later.
Surf City in the current rotation is the revised Surf City Remix version released on September 24. Epic announced the redesigned map ahead of launch, including changes informed by feedback on the original version and the replacement of parts of its previous layout. Its arrival therefore does more than simply restore an older island to the queue: it gives players another version of Reload’s compact-map format alongside Oasis and Springfield. Mini-Venture, which had been part of the previous Ranked rotation, is not among the three maps identified in the newly active lineup.
That also changes the role Springfield has played since the recent Reload updates. Epic’s v42.00 notes in August described a rotation containing Springfield, Mini-Venture and Oasis, but Unranked players subsequently spent an extended period restricted to Springfield while Ranked retained multiple options. Community posts throughout August and September repeatedly asked for map rotation to return to regular Reload. With Oasis and Surf City Remix now appearing alongside Springfield, players no longer need to enter Ranked simply to avoid playing the same island repeatedly.
Reload has continued receiving map and gameplay changes separately from Fortnite’s main Battle Royale playlists. Recent files have also pointed toward a possible Halloween-themed Reload map, while another datamine suggested the Flashlight Pistol could be added to Reload. Those discoveries concern potential future content, whereas the Oasis, Surf City Remix and Springfield rotation is already being encountered in live matches.
The current evidence therefore indicates that the important change is specifically the return of map variety to Unranked Reload, rather than simply the launch of Surf City Remix. Epic had already confirmed Surf City’s September 24 arrival, but FireMonkey’s discovery and player reports show that its introduction coincides with Oasis and Springfield becoming part of the regular playlist rotation as well. Epic has not yet published an accessible Reload update note specifically spelling out this revised three-map Unranked rotation, so the precise duration of the setup is not confirmed. For now, however, both Ranked and Unranked players are seeing a broader selection than Unranked offered under the Springfield-only arrangement.
