GE-Proton 11-12 has been released, bringing a substantial collection of game compatibility fixes and technical improvements for Linux and SteamOS users. The community-maintained Proton build addresses NVIDIA crashes in ARC Raiders, restores DLSS functionality in Star Citizen, improves controller support in several games, and resolves memory leaks affecting Helldivers 2.
The update is available through the official GE-Proton GitHub repository maintained by GloriousEggroll. Its release notes detail changes since GE-Proton 11-11, including updated Wine components, graphics translation layers, video playback fixes, and improvements to HDR handling.
One of the notable fixes targets ARC Raiders, where NVIDIA users could experience a crash if the game window lost focus while a level was loading. GE-Proton 11-12 addresses that specific issue and incorporates a VKD3D-Proton workaround for wave32 shader operations.

The compatibility improvements arrive alongside the game’s ongoing updates, including ARC Raiders Update 2.3, which introduced FSR 4.1.1 and additional graphics-related fixes.
Star Citizen receives another important correction for NVIDIA hardware. The update restores DLSS functionality by preventing conflicts with an address range reserved by NVIDIA’s driver. This replaces an earlier workaround involving CUDA libraries and avoids requiring bottom-up memory allocation to be disabled.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide also receives a targeted improvement for AMD users. On AMD-only systems, the game can now use its bundled AMD GPU Services library without the amdxc64 override, restoring the FSR 4 option on RDNA 3 hardware. The change does not apply when PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE is enabled or amdxc64 has been explicitly overridden.
Controller compatibility is another major focus of GE-Proton 11-12. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Horizon Forbidden West, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered can now use DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers together over USB. The affected games automatically receive the PROTON_SONY_WINDOWS_DEVICE_NAMES=1 configuration.
Armored Core VI now supports controllers through the Steam Input fallback even when Steam Input is disabled for the game, correcting an issue where controller input was not detected.
Where Winds Meet receives a separate DualSense touchpad fix, while a new PROTON_STEAM_INPUT_XBOX_PROMPTS option allows games to identify the Steam Deck and Steam Controller as Xbox controllers. This helps games display controller button prompts instead of keyboard prompts and is enabled by default for Rune Factory 5.
GE-Proton 11-12 also resolves resource management problems in several games. Helldivers 2 previously experienced leaks involving approximately 34 GiB of virtual address space and 360 MiB of physical memory per hour under affected conditions. The update addresses those leaks alongside accumulating threads and file descriptors during gameplay.
EVE Online receives a related improvement to uncontrolled heap growth. The release notes document memory growth falling from 292 MiB per hour to 28.5 MiB per hour in a test involving five game clients. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 also receives a fix for crashes occurring after extended play sessions.
Several additional compatibility problems have been corrected. Persona 5 Royal addresses crashes involving Reloaded-II mods, The Last of Us Part II regains its daily-run leaderboard functionality, and The Forest receives a fix for crashes when connecting to dedicated servers through its in-game server browser.
Video playback improvements cover Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, where 4K introduction videos no longer play in slow motion, and several older arcade games with broken or unstable movie playback. Silent Hill: The Arcade, Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5, and Need for Speed Underground’s Global VR edition are among the affected titles.
On the graphics side, GE-Proton 11-12 updates DXVK to version 3.1.1-174, VKD3D-Proton to version 3.1, and DXVK-NVAPI to version 0.9.3. These components help translate Windows graphics APIs and NVIDIA-specific functionality for Linux environments.
The release also incorporates Valve’s October 31, 2026 bleeding-edge Wine changes, alongside additional fixes to controller detection, window management, OpenXR support, and DirectX compatibility.
HDR handling has received attention as well. The update fixes oversaturated Steam overlay and MangoHud visuals in HDR10 games running through Wine-Wayland on KDE Plasma 6.8. A new PROTON_FORCE_HDR=1 option allows HDR to be reported in certain configurations where automatic detection would otherwise fail.
For users running alternative Linux desktop environments, the update fixes fullscreen behavior on Hyprland, input freezes involving Fcitx5, and Steam overlay cursor problems on certain Wayland compositors.
GE-Proton 11-12 also introduces PROTON_STREAMLINE_UPGRADE, an option that downloads an updated NVIDIA Streamline component to enable DLSS frame generation overrides in games shipping older versions. Support for existing FSR 4 and multi-frame-generation upgrade options has been refined.
The changes are particularly relevant to Linux gaming PCs and SteamOS devices, where Proton compatibility determines whether many Windows games launch and function correctly. They complement broader platform improvements such as SteamOS 3.9.5's gaming fixes, although GE-Proton remains a separate community-maintained compatibility build rather than an official Valve release.
GE-Proton 11-12 is available from the project’s GitHub releases page. Users can select the updated compatibility tool for individual Steam games, making the new fixes available without requiring every game to switch away from Valve’s standard Proton builds.
