Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5, Netflix has confirmed ahead of the presentation’s premiere today, August 27.
Netflix added the detail to its official Tudum page for the upcoming GTA 6 presentation, stating that the Extended Look was “captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.” The wording confirms that the footage viewers will see comes directly from the game running on Sony’s current-generation console rather than from a separately rendered cinematic presentation.
Netflix does not specify whether the footage was captured on the standard PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 5 Pro, so it would be premature to identify the exact PS5 model being used. The distinction could be important for players trying to judge GTA 6’s expected console visuals and performance, but neither Netflix nor Rockstar Games has provided that additional detail.
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premieres on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday, August 27. Rockstar Games has confirmed that the presentation will then become available through its official YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website at 9 p.m. ET, six hours after the Netflix premiere.
The Netflix listing currently shows a runtime of approximately 26 minutes, making the Extended Look substantially longer than either of Rockstar’s previous GTA 6 trailers. Rockstar has not provided a detailed breakdown of what will be shown during the presentation, so the specific gameplay systems, locations and story material included remain unknown until it premieres.
The confirmation that the presentation consists of in-game PS5 footage is nevertheless significant. Rockstar’s GTA trailers frequently combine scenes designed to showcase characters, environments and narrative moments, whereas the wording used by Netflix establishes that the upcoming footage originates from the game itself.
It should not necessarily be interpreted as 26 uninterrupted minutes of traditional player-controlled gameplay. “In-game footage” can include gameplay sequences, cutscenes and other material rendered by the game engine. Neither Rockstar nor Netflix has described the Extended Look as an unedited gameplay session.
PlayStation already has a visible role in GTA 6’s marketing. Rockstar’s official GTA 6 website currently carries a “Plays best on PlayStation 5” message and links users to information about PlayStation features. GTA 6 itself remains a multiplatform release, however, with Rockstar confirming both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions.
The Extended Look arrives after Rockstar released GTA 6 Trailer 2 in May 2025, which provided a much broader look at protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia, Vice City and other parts of the fictional state of Leonida. Rockstar describes the pair as becoming caught in a criminal conspiracy after an easy score goes wrong, forcing them to depend on one another.
GTA 6 is currently scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not announced a PC release date.
With the game now less than three months from launch, the 26-minute Extended Look represents Rockstar’s most substantial scheduled presentation of GTA 6 so far. The confirmation that it was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5 also gives viewers a clearer idea of the technical context behind what they will see when the presentation goes live later today.
