GTA 6 Extended Look Hits 31.1 Million Netflix Views in Four Days

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look reached 31.1 million views on Netflix in its first four days, according to the streaming platform’s latest weekly Top 10 data. The 27-minute Rockstar Games presentation finished No. 1 on Netflix’s English film chart for the week of August 24 and also ranked first in 87 of the 93 countries tracked by the service.

The presentation premiered on Netflix on August 27, giving it only four days of viewing within Netflix’s August 24 to August 30 reporting period. Despite that shortened window, it still finished ahead of every other English-language film on the platform. The Whisper Man ranked second with 23.2 million views, leaving GTA 6 with a lead of nearly eight million views during the week.

Netflix describes a “view” using its standard engagement methodology rather than simply counting every time someone presses play. The company calculates views by dividing total hours watched by a title’s runtime, meaning the 31.1 million figure represents equivalent completed views rather than raw starts. That makes the number directly comparable with the rest of Netflix’s weekly rankings.

The performance is unusual because Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is essentially a major video game presentation rather than a conventional film. Netflix itself described the release as a first-of-its-kind premiere for the service, reflecting the unusual partnership between Rockstar and the streaming company. It was made available globally to Netflix subscribers and launched with subtitles in multiple languages.

Rockstar’s Extended Look runs for roughly 27 minutes and was captured entirely from in-game footage running on PlayStation 5. It provides the most extensive official look at GTA 6 so far, following protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos while showing Vice City and the wider state of Leonida. The footage includes driving, gunfights, police pursuits, nightlife, recreational activities and several sequences focused on the relationship between the two lead characters.

Netflix had six hours of exclusivity before Rockstar made the Extended Look available elsewhere, including YouTube and its own website. That means the 31.1 million Netflix views were achieved even though viewers had alternative free ways to watch the presentation for most of the four-day tracking window. The result therefore gives a clearer indication of how much attention Rockstar’s reveal generated specifically inside Netflix’s subscriber base.

The geographic reach was similarly broad. Netflix says the presentation ranked No. 1 in 87 of the 93 countries included in its global Top 10 reporting. That puts GTA 6 near the top of the service across the overwhelming majority of markets where Netflix publishes rankings, rather than being driven primarily by a handful of large gaming regions.

Rockstar and Netflix announced the partnership shortly before the premiere, with Netflix saying that major Grand Theft Auto reveals had become cultural events in their own right. Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s vice president of nonfiction series, described the collaboration as an example of the platform expanding beyond traditional television and film programming. The latest audience figures provide the first indication of how strongly Netflix users responded to that experiment.

The milestone also adds another unusually large audience figure to GTA 6’s pre-release campaign. Rockstar’s first trailer became one of the fastest-growing video game trailers ever released on YouTube, while subsequent GTA 6 announcements have repeatedly generated large spikes in online traffic and social engagement. The Netflix results show that interest has carried over to a much longer presentation and a different distribution platform.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. With the Extended Look drawing 31.1 million Netflix views from only four days of availability in the reporting period, Rockstar’s latest reveal has already become one of the most visible pieces of the game’s marketing campaign ahead of release.
