GTA VI Extended Look Is Now Age-Restricted on YouTube

Rockstar Games’ official Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look has been age-restricted on YouTube, meaning viewers now need to be signed into an account and confirmed as over 18 to watch the presentation on the platform.

The restriction appeared after Rockstar uploaded the nearly 27-minute showcase to YouTube following its initial Netflix premiere on August 27.

The change has also been independently noted by viewers attempting to access the official upload, while French outlet BFMTV reported that a Google account is required because of the age restriction.

YouTube has not publicly explained why the GTA VI video was specifically restricted.

The presentation contains multiple scenes involving gunfire, police chases, criminal activity and other mature material, but there is currently no evidence identifying one particular sequence as the trigger.

YouTube’s own policies allow it to age-restrict content that does not violate its Community Guidelines but is considered unsuitable for viewers under 18.

The platform also specifically considers violent and graphic video game content when making those decisions.

Under YouTube’s current violent-content policy, factors can include how realistic the characters appear, how prominent violent imagery is, how long it remains on screen and whether graphic violence is a major focus of the video.

YouTube expanded its approach to mature gaming content in late 2025, saying it would age-restrict an additional subset of video game videos involving realistic human characters where scenes of torture or mass violence against non-combatants are a focus.

There is no indication that Rockstar’s video has been removed or penalized with a Community Guidelines strike.

Age-restricted videos can remain available on YouTube, but their reach is more limited.

Users who are signed out or under 18 cannot watch them, and age-restricted content can also be unavailable through certain embedded players and Restricted Mode environments.

The restriction may also affect creators reposting or reacting to the footage.

GTA-focused account videotech reported that YouTuber HollowPoiint said re-uploads of the Extended Look were also being age-restricted.

That claim has not been independently confirmed across all re-uploads, so it is unclear whether YouTube is systematically applying the restriction to copies of the presentation or reviewing videos individually.

The official Rockstar upload itself is clearly affected.

That matters because YouTube became the main free distribution platform for the Extended Look after Netflix’s six-hour exclusivity window ended.

Rockstar premiered the presentation on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET on August 27 before releasing it through YouTube and its own GTA VI website later that evening.

The video was captured entirely from in-game footage running on PlayStation 5 and provides Rockstar’s longest official look at GTA VI so far.

It includes extended sequences featuring Jason and Lucia alongside driving, combat, police encounters and numerous activities around Vice City and the wider state of Leonida.

Players who cannot or do not want to use YouTube still have other official viewing options.

The Extended Look remains available through Netflix, while Rockstar also hosts the video directly through its own website.

Rockstar’s version is particularly notable because the company has made a high-quality source file available without the same level of streaming compression found on YouTube.

The age restriction therefore does not prevent viewers from accessing the presentation altogether, but it does create an additional barrier on the world’s largest video platform.

Rockstar Games has not publicly commented on YouTube’s decision, and YouTube has not issued a specific explanation for the restriction.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
